I'm thinking of getting a diesel primera IV ('02-'06) esate. However the post May '04 models are a bit above my price range.
Firstly, is the original still worth getting or do the suspension tweaks and other modifications of the facelift model make the earlier one a poor choice?
Secondly, is the 'dci' engine significantly better than the original 'di'?
Any thoughts much appreciated.

Having trouble with the electric sunroof.
Will tilt up but not slide back.
Rubber on the front of the roof glass looks a bit squashed and the roof does not sit flush with the car bodywork.
Was told the problem lies with the slider cable having come loose/ off its runner but it's located in the car roof under the headlining.
Was quoted 2 hours work to fix it at £42.50 per hour plus VAT.
Sounds like a rip-off to me, £42.50 per hour? who earns that kinda money?
Anyhow questions are these:
1/ How easy is it to take the headlining off myself.
2/ Does anyone on here know anywhere cheaper, bearing in mind I'm in the Greater Manchester area.

Price is good, cheaper than in my area ie £95 an hour.
Job is best left to garage to sort,I gather they are fiddly to do get right

I don't often travel on motorways as the nearest one is 50 miles away, so was surprised to notice last week that a lot of crash barriers have been modified to present a 'blunt' end to oncoming traffic, marked by a rectangular plate with diagonal black and yellow markings, rather than the previous practice of tapering them into the ground.
It would seem that the idea is to skewer errant vehicles to prevent them veering back into the roadway as may have happened with the tapering, but I haven't come across any mention of this work being undertaken or the reasons for it. ( I did try a forum search with no luck )
Any thoughts?

the police used these to good effect last week to get a stolen car/baddies of the motorway in a classic slow down get him off the motorway movement,they even commenteed on how they did the technique to get the driven wheels off the ground.
i too could have dreamt it though?
I have recently failed my motorcycle practical test, the reason given was that when I was turning right at a large roundabout I exited on the offside lane rather than cutting across and exiting on the nearside lane. I have been driving like this for 30 years and never had an accident. I did a strawpole at work and it seems most exit on the outside lane and then go into the left hand lane as soon as it is safe. I don't think it is safe as another driver who is going straight ahead would not appreciate me cutting in in front of him while I exit the roundabout. Any thoughts?

1996, I purchased it last year from W H smith
My daughter's Citroen AX has just developed a huuuuge amount of side-to-side play at the gearlever. Push forward for third and pull back for reverse. Driving it is very simple, if a little hard on the clutch. Any views on what I might find tomorrow? I'm guessing a selector rod in the linkage has dropped off. What do you think?

Yep, it was the short transverse rod immediately above the exhaust. Unfortunately this is the one that drops off when it fails so I secured it with a spring to the other transverse rod; it's a deadful bodge but I think a cable-tie would soon wear through owing to the rust on the rods. Greased up the other ball & socket joints and the 2 pivots and it changes very sweetly now.

Hi all, I was going down the motorway today with my son, and he informed me that one is not allowed to do there own wheel changes ( because of punture) on the hard shoulder any more. You have to call for help. Is this right or his he pulling my leg ? First I have heard of it. Cheers, Graham.

Sadness writ in there........people still suffering because of it.
Today I was in my local motor factors behind a guy buying a new number plate.
His rear plate had been stolen overnight - hence the replacement.
His original was held on by a chrome strip at each side. This appears to be quite vulnerable to a "no tools required" snatch.
Are plates with double sided sticky pads easy to remove or are the plates likely to break?
I guess thise held on with a couple of self tapping screws are the next most vulnerable.
There seems no real total answer to this problem.
IIRC there are special plates that break up if an attempt is made to remove them.
At least this would avoid " fill up and flee" using my car reg. Read more
Use no nails they will never come off in one piece.
It had never ocurred to me to nail the number plate on, even when I had a car with a wooden frame.
My Taxi cut out yesterday when I pressed the air con button. Now it won't start. I thought it may be the imobiliser but I don't know how to reset it - any idea's Read more

My Golf Estate (Diesel) went in for its service and MOT this week and shock/horror it came out pretty good.
In the end it just needed some work on the brakes and the usual bulbs and that was it. Total cost around £300 (good for a N reg in my book). My main concern (I don't trust no-one) is that items on the advisory from the last MOT didn't even creep in this year. Now do I have the world's first self-healing car or is it the usual case of different people having different standards ???

You in NZ or back in the UK? If you are in the UK you can have mine . . . . . . . . . .but it's a hatch. Check the recalls have been done, and that there is a service history with the car. Other than the usual stuff, you should be OK.
