Anyone know of any banger racing places close to Surrey with events happening soon?
How do you have to prep the car? Read more
Which one would you buy from these two if you had to get one of these with a budget of less than £2k? I've seen couple of good Golf TDis 97/98 models with a mileage of around 100k.
My main priorities are, it has to be cheap to run, reliable and fairly comfortable for motorways because I'll be doing around 80 miles in a day.
What shall I look out for when inspecting a Golf TDI? Read more
The Xsara is not as popular as the 306, nor is the Toledo as popular as the Golf, as the 306 and the Golf win because of their good looks. It's a case of same car, different clothes-don't judge a book by it's cover as they say!

The winderscreen wipers on my wife`s Sharon have slowed up so much on a trip to Liverpool and at one point stopped in the middle of the screen. This was quiet frightening on the m-6 inpouring rain. The next day they seemed to operate ok. I just wondered whether any one out could shed some light on this problem. Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for advice . I dismanteled the wiper linkage this afternoon and the passager side spindle was seized up .But freed it up with WD40 , I greased all the pivot points and reasembled the linkage, works perfect now. Thanks again.
intermitent indicator and wiper fault. indicator sometimes flashes about three times then stops, when this happens the wipers also stop working, then everything.works ok again. Read more
two separate faults. the indictor fault was the hazard light switch and the wiper fault would only happen if the wipers were switched through intermitant, leave them on switch the ign on and off they would work all day.this was the wiper relay. no fault was the column switch.
Hi, I will start by saying I fully appreciate and understand the difficulties our less mobile population have to endure, I cared for my mother who was both registerd blind and disabled.
Now to get to the point, I have noticed to my horror that some users of mobilty scooters actualy treat them like cars, driving on the road and even moving to the centre of the road to turn right.
I have witnessed this happening in my own town despite all the pavements being ramped. Today saw one user crossing a busy junction where it is impossible to see what is coming from the left due to the traffic coming from out of the old medievel walled town (I would normaly wait until the last car has gone through the the tunnel from the right).
Are the buyers of these scooters not advised on the safest way to use them.
I fear an accident is waiting to happen where I live.

cycles have been banned, and their images in white thermoplastic burned
off the road.
and quite rightly too as I'm sure everyone will agree...
In the fullness of time we will have the technology to burn these baleful images out of people's actual, you know, er, for want of a better word brains... sort of cortexes, you know?

My 2.0 Dti Vectra C has done 92000 miles and has not missed a beat, bullet proof if looked after, and chain cam unlike the newer 1.9cdti.
A friend of mine has a 205 1.9 GTI and has a problem where it will not tick over or fast tick over properly.
Checked the mixture and ignition settings, but the problem seems to be the Air Flow Meter tracking. This has been traced by info he found on the net..
The Carbon track is grooved and I have adjusted its sweep onto a good part of the carbon, but from the Ohms readings as per the Info. Its still faulty.
So where can I get a new or refurbished Carbon board for this car. I know I could get a AFM complete, from Pug Spares at £280, which is not an Idea.

Thanks, but already have tried that by as much as 3 or 4 notches, but have to be careful not to get too lean as he likes to use upper rev range (Melting Pistons). The other thing I tried was to the opposite way for it to be richer, then it stinks and that won't be good washng the oil off the bores. ??
thanks anyway.
I've just been looking at the Auris on Toyota's web site. No, I don't know why either, but I noticed that it features "push start". I had a car with that about 30 years ago. Several in fact!

My Pajero (2.8 td auto) has developed a leak in the radiator. its at the top near the cap and only leaks under pressure. I need the car fixing asap as my wife has just passed her test!!!
Is this job one for the amatuer? or is it a garage job?
Thanks

when the car is warm the top and bottom hoses are
nice and firm but dont feel over pressured. i was careful
to get rid of air locks.
The caps are usually set around 13psa (0.9bar or thereabouts). If the cap is new and fits properly then there must be too much pressure if its venting off.

The organisers should provide you with a set of regs. Suggest try something a bit less aggressive than full contact banger racing as a starter, there are some animals driving and the feuds run for years. I have frequently tried to give up my addiction to perhaps the most basic form of motorsport, but the pull is strong. The spectators are interesting if viewed from a distance. I'm in good company though, Brian Sewell is a fan of oval track racing
