Screwloose or Anyone
This is connected to the Astra 1999 X16XEL-Abnormal loss of power topic i posted earlier. But relatively a new topic.
Thanks for the advise, the cam was opened and everything seemed fine according to the garage, the turning point of all these goes back to the coil pack/ignition coil, your first advise. When the four sparks together with the coil pack were tested for electrical flow, one of the coil packs, the fourth one is weak in electrical current. Thus i guess this confirms it, the coil pack needs to be replaced.
I just hope its not the computer box, for the garage said that if its the computer box, there will be completely no electrical current on one pipe, similar to their experience with a BMW if a computer box is really defective.
Thanks would like to hear more what you think. I just hope its really the coil pack and nothing more for I've spent so much already.
How would you know now if its the coil pack or the computer box?
Thanks

I did a 15 mile journey in my car today to try and get some use out of it and I noticed the speedo was shaking, if I was doing 30 it would range between 28-32 even though my speed was constant. This is worrying as I am learning and I need the speedo to be stable.
Is this an likely to be an easy fix or something I just need to live with? Apart from fixing the temp sender unit the only other thing I have done is put the throttle cable back its retainer clip as it had worked loose. Read more
When placing an order for a new Honda CRV recently (No HP involved) , the salesman offered my son-in-law Gap Insurance to cover a period of 3 years from new for about £325.
I really know little about this type of insurance, except that it can be useful if a car purchased on HP is written off following an accident and the amount paid by
the insuring company is less then the total amount due to the HP Company.
Any advice regarding the usefulness of this type of insurance would be much appreciated, please.

It's all getting quite daft. People should take responsibility for their own actions and not have to suffer this rehearsed regulated drivel. I had a crazy experience only in the last week buying a new top-handle chainsaw, wouldn't let me have it since now you have to have a certificate proving 'competence'. I was livid, I've used chainsaws since I was 12.
I was in the supermarket today and browsed through the latest AutoExpress. They had done a strip-down on a 2004 Ford C-Max (TDCI, I think) which had done 60k miles - just to see how well it had worn.
I was staggered to read that they found 1/3 of the radiator core was blocked (presumbaly with scale and corrosion). This is really really poor on a car that it less than three years old. I would imagine that the coolant had been Fords OAT (10 year life) stuff. It sounds to me that either there is an incompaticbility between the coolant and material in the engine/cooling system, or substandard materials are being used. This is certainly something that anyone buying one of these Fords should be aware of, and it may obviously apply to other Ford models using the same powertrain. With a radiator blocked to that extent you are well on the way to overheating problems come the summer. Read more
Just read the text alongside the photo, it says "rad fins".
LOL! That's better then! They must mean the exterior.
Hi,
I'm at university and I'm using a mark 3 golf axle as part of a project. Could anyone give me intructions of how to disconnect the axle from the brake drum/ hub assembly? We want to get rid of the vw axle and attach an axle we are making to the old brake drums.
Thanks

The Haynes manual dos not detail removing of the actual stub axle but the 4 bolts that retain the brake backing plate is an very good starting point. Regards Peter
Hi,
I have a 2004 Daihatsu Charade 1.0 SL. Recently it has developed a rather strange squeaking sound when the revs drop down to idling. It is not continuous, and only occurs when pulling off, and then when changing gears. It only happens at a particular frequency of revs (i.e. just below the normal idle - when pulling off). Could it be a loose engine mount, or is it perhaps an exhaust vibration? The car flew through the MOT on Saturday and nothing was mentioned about it. It cannot be heard higher up the rev range (drove to Oxford and back from London this week-end and the only time you could hear it was when pulling out of junctions or edging forwards in traffic - no trace of it on the motorway). Any ideas?
The warranty runs out on 1st March, so am going to book it in tomorrow!
Many thanks
Regards,
Rob E

Clutch release bearing??
Loose alternator belt??
hi, along with my warning bulb (earlier posting) the clutch was making a bit of a racket after a long run today (idling in nuetral) but seemed quiter when i dipped the clutch pedal it doesnt slip at all when travelling so i dont suppose its the friction plate should i ignore it or get the clutch replaced and if so do the kits contain all the bits apart from the friction plate or will i need to go to a breaker for additional parts Read more
As DP above says this is a feature of these cars, we have a 12 year old Fiesta, when the car was 1 year old, we queried this noise with the dealer, he pointed out they all did this, apparently they had just cahanged a gearbox on a similar Fiesta( for this reason) and the new one was worse!
11 years on our Fiesta is still the same the noise doesn't seem to have got worse, perhaps we are less fussy....
hi, ive got a prob with the battery charge warning lamp on my fiesta ,it stays ON when i switch the ignition off and remove the key, the alternator is functioning with the engine running and the battery warning light goes out, ive looked at the wiring diag and as far as i can make out there is an in line diode in the warning bulb connection that comes off the alternator multi plug could it be that that has failed causing a reverse voltage? if so how do i replace the diode? i left the alternator connected up over night with the dodgy diode, it sucked the battery dry by morning, ive got it on trickle charge at the mo hope it aint shot, oh replaced the alternator forthwith

Sounds as though the speedo drive in the gearbox is starting to wear. This is sometimes a symptom of the diff bearins starting to wear which causes the diff to tilt slightly which causes the plastic speedo drive to wear
