Ebay item: 220035558034 on ebay.co.uk - hope this solves your piano quest! Read more

What can I say? Thanks deepy!

Just one snag though.....the ad says it's in a "handsome dark green". I don't like handsome dark greens. If it was a handsome light green...or a boring dark green then I'd buy it in a shot!

I find it difficult to believe I'd look as cool as I do now - even with a piano in there though ;-)

Hi,

I've managed to misplace my MOT certificate; it's due for renewal in the next two weeks. However, it's one of the old fashioned handwritten types, and so I'm unsure whether any other copy of the certificate exists. Ordinarily I'd just get the replacement MOT done two weeks early but I'm giving some friends a lift up to Glentress in Scotland tomorrow at short notice so can't get this done.

Can I rely on the garage to issue a duplicate if for whatever reason I'm asked to produce the certificate, or am I effectively driving without an MOT? Everything else (insurance/tax etc is fine)

Very many thanks,

David. Read more

Safely back, although the Scottish Borders need a motorway direct to the middle. Never, EVER take the A7(01). It might be classed as an A-road, but believe me, it's abou 6 inches wide and driving it is like having your teeth forcibly extracted with a jackhammer. The A68 is better only because it's straight as a die, but the 25% each side blind summits make it unpleasant to drive. Stunning scenery though, but I fidgeting the whole way back because I crashed painfully into a pile of rocks on the bike at Glentress. :)

I need a spare ignition key for an 2004 Daihatsu YRV 1.3

The Daithatsu agent is quoting £100-£150 plus to supply a spare key, stating it has to be programmed into the car security system.

Is there a cheaper alternative to this? Read more

Look in Yellow pages for locksmiths-some claim to be able to programme keys.

Just like to point out that I have been driving 80's cars as daily drivers for years and aside from a few fripperies, cars havent changed that much since then. They are perfectly suitable as daily drivers if you buy sensibly ( ie car in good cond, dont buy a design thats been around since the 70's and one with a good reputation for reliability even when older ).

I use my Mazda ( 1986 ) on a daily basis and aside from not having power steering, its as easy to drive and reliable as any other car ive ever owned of any age. I do about 1000 miles a month in it without problems.

Question Astra diesel?
ib33

Anyone know if the Astra diesel (year 2000 model) is any good?
Like the sound of a chain cam on the eco-tec engine, will be buying with highish mileage (90-120K) any common expensive problems to know about?
do any of the other engines have timing belts?
Thanks in advance, Regards, Ian

The 2.0 dti has never had a problem with its cam chain, that was ONLY the earlier 2.2 petrol. The dti lump is very reliable and yes they do have mafs go sometimes, but you can get them on e-bay for about £50.

I have been the proud owner of an 02 vectra 1.8LS for two weeks. The car was purchased from a used car dealer and all the documents are in good order. The only problem has been the intermittent appearance of an engine block warning light on the dash. The dealer honoured his obligations under the warranty and I took the car to his preferred garage to get it checked out.The garage managed to fix this problem and I was happy enough with this.I enquired about a price to service the car and the mechanic asked to see the service booklet. On studying the history he was a bit suspicious that the timing belt hadn't been replaced at 63000 miles and called the garage in question to enquire about this.He was told that the belt had not been replaced. This makes the belt overdue and he has quoted me £200 to carry out the work.By my own admission I am a bit green when it comes to these things and I'm not sure that I should be shelling out this money so soon after purchase and still well within the three month warranty.Does anyone know if I have a claim against the garage that didn't replace the belt, were they obliged to replace it? The car was MOTd two weeks ago, should that have been picked up then? Current milage is 66,000.Any feedback would be appreciated.

The car may have had an earlier belt change, ask a Vauxhall dealer to check records against the reg number or VIN.

Also if you have it done make sure the tensioners etc are also done, i.e a kit is fitted and not just a belt. I would have this done by a Vauxhall dealer's Master Fit dept, should be no more expensive than back street indy and will be more comprehensively warrantied.

Hi all
Wondering if you could help a female in need of some advice. Travelling on M1, aprx 70 mph - the engine coughed and sputtered twice, engine mngment light came on/fuel pump on dash (yellow) then foot down could only go 40/50 mph, any type of gradient only reaching max 30mph. I managed to get to my destination eventually. Had it towed to Fiat dealers tonight - anyone any ideas of what it could be, cost and why? Just so I don't go into the dealers looking like pound signs. Mileage 39000k fully serviced etc

Thanks muchly!!
Look forward to hearing from you Read more

Just seen a 806, 02 reg on a forecourt for £5995 only done 23,000 miles was the local peugeot garages demo model.
Done a price check on parkers and its come back at £5340 so not massively inflated, only bad point is its a automatic petrol engine, but on the other hand we dont do high enough miles to make it worth getting a diesel.
Can anybody tell me what these are like on the motorway? Our current car (scenic 1.6 petrol) 75mph and the rev counters at 38,000 and it all gets a bit noisy, i want a car that will sit at 80 and you dont have to keep turning the radio up, talking to passengers. Read more

I had a P reg from New SVTD 806, did 156k over 6 years, before becomming a money pit.
Think it was only a 1.9td, bit underpowered, but otherwise a fantastic ride and the sliding doors a massive benefit.
As previously mentioned at the right price go for it

I've had this problem with the glove compartment for about a month, it seems to have locked itself shutand refuses to open even when using the key to unlock it. I have been down to my local vw dealers who have suggested that I get a new compartment lid, but wanting to charge silly money for it, not mentioning the cost of fitting. Ive spoken to a few garages and got no luck.

Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can open this without barking the lock? Read more

Having been told a couple of weeks ago that my wifes Fiesta will most likely fail its MOT next year we're looking for a cheap and cheerful runabout for her.

Want something as new as possible, as low mileage as possible that shoud be relatively trouble free and last a few years. And must be cheap as chips.

Will probably go through the Auctions- preferred choice would be a Hyundai Accent but also contemplating a Mk1 Kia Rio. By all accounts very bland and uninspiring to drive, but will just be for knocking round town, taking the kids to nursery etc so who cares?

Or am I missing something and this will be a costly mistake? Read more

There's no such thing as 'free' really, I'd be the first to admit that! They offered us the deal however we paid with very little prompting. We were originally looking at ordinary finance as opposed to PCP and the deal was on offer with that, at a lower interest rate. We did enquire about PCP and it was admitted that the interest rate was higher but we were told this was normal for PCP. Don't know how true this was as we were advised to lease by our accountant so we've now ordered one on a lease deal, which includes maintenance.
We were told 4 to 5 weeks maximum, possibly a little less, for delivery.
