Does anyone know which Rovers have got Honda engines/gearboxes? I bought a Pug 106 recently and the car is nothing but a nightmare and I'm planning to get rid of it. Need a cheap small reliable car for everyday use and mainly for my pizza deliveries job. I want a car with 1400cc or a smaller engine. I've seen quite a few very cheap Rovers on autotrader but I don't want to a buy one with Rover engine because of head gasket issues. Could you please let me know which small rovers have got Honda engines, gearboxes etc..? Many Thanks Read more
I have a Fuji F10 digital camera that allows you to set the ISO rating.
On the Auto setting, it usually selects about ISO 800 with indoor flash. (Which seems to me to be a bit high for top quality)
With film, I usually use ISO 100 or 200.
Should I therefore use this setting on the digital camera, or just leave it on Auto and let the camera do the setting?

Yes, unfortunately they can. We recruit graduates and there is some evidence that a few accept more than one job offer and choose later. Infuriating but there's nothing we can do legally.
Hi,
I?m looking for any advice or pointers:
I am seriously considering starting a small business as well as keeping my current job (for now) selling cars from home.
My plan is to sell more prestige cars in the 10k to 18k bracket (Audi?s, B.M.W?s etc).
I have a detached house with a large drive so I would not be selling from a public road and I would only want one maybe two cars for sale at any one time. I am looking at making around £800 to 1k a car once every two weeks to start with.
Now for the advice.
1, where would be the best place to source the vehicle?s Auctions? (I have just returned from two BCA auctions) car super markets / giants? Both these options would involve a long return trip (not a problem though). Local papers / auto trader
2, should I set up a 3 month warranty if the car is not under manufacturer?s warranty
3, should I set up a facility if possible for finance?
Any advice would be helpful and i would be very interested in hearing from others who currently offer this service.

I personally found this thread very interesting as I too once considered selling vehicles from auction at home. However what a pity that it was ruined by unnecessary remarks when introducing posts.

I have a vauxhall zafira dti, i did replace the glow plugs about 2 1/2 years ago, using my mates tools, sadly he moved and i may need to buy the correct tools ,however, i have a digital multimeter, can i use this to read the voltage etc ? Read more
i removed all the glow plugs in my mums 306.
tested them by hold one jump lead to the body of the plug connected to the negative and touching the positive on the battery with the bottom of the plug.
used this method before.
to my suprise none of the plugs worked i didnt think it would be possible to start like that but it did.
I have a Passat 54 plate 130. I have had the car now for over a year now. I have noticed that changing gears between 1st and 2nd is becoming notchy. A couple of colleagues have the same car and have similar problems. One colleague has had his in at the dealer. They adjusted the gear linkage (I think). My colleague is advising me that it is better but still there and he is being advised by the dealer that this is a normal issue with this type of engine.
My car is going in to the dealer to get its brake fluid changed in a couple of weeks.
I will get them to look at this issue at the same time. I do not want to be fobbed off with excuses as to what the problem maybe and that it is design intent and live with it.
So I am looking for some advise as to how to approach the subject just in case they try and fob me off.

Problem with gear selection came back. Went back to garage yesterday. Collected car they have now fitted a new dual mass flywheel and a new clutch. Car seems to be ok. I will update in a month if this has cured the problem with the gears. Fingers crossed.
I work with the management committees of a number of small charitable organisations. A member of one of them recently suggested that a way of promoting their group would be to put flyers under windscreen wipers in local car parks. I know this happens a lot, and personally I find it irritating when it's done to my own car, but is my memory correct that this is technically illegal, or did I imagine hearing this? I'm in N. Ireland, in case that makes any difference (some laws passed in GB haven't made it onto the statute books here).

Really, I don't think the question of legality enters into it.
You will irritate most people who get one of your flyers. The ones who read it will probably remember the name of the charity, and make a mental note to avoid giving to it in future. The ones who don't read it ... well, you've wasted your money, haven't you?

Drink Lager, Talk Piffle,
I'm having a bit of a run of bad luck with the C5 at present, the latest being a puncture that couldn't be repaired.
I took the car to the nearest supplier (national chain) at first but, after they told me the puncture couldn't be repaired, they couldn't provide the tyre I wanted, after saying they could. They had removed the tyre from the rim, so had to put it back on again. I always check for damage to the alloys after tyres have been replaced, so I had quick look and couldn't see anything, so I proceeded to a local supplier, who I knew was likely to have the required tyre and would be much cheaper than the national chain.
After the new tyre had been replaced, I again checked the rim and couldn't see any damage, so off I went. However, later in the day, I was checking the tyre pressure and noticed that there is some slight damage on the extreme outer edge, where the finish to the wheel has been scraped off. It is very annoying, as I can't be sure whether it was done at the national chain, or at the local supplier. It is not something that could have been caused by kerb damage.
Is this something that is bound to happen, sooner or later, with alloys when tyres are changed? Read more
>> Price above includes balancing, and removing and refitting tyres.
>>
And let me guess, they managed to fit the tyres back
on the wheels without any damage being induced?
You might have hit on the answer to tyre fitters damaging alloys: buy tyres online, and then take them to a wheel refurbisher to be fitted!
My 122,000 mile 9-5 is still running as well as ever, and I try to ensure this is so by regular servicing and care. My dealer is very reluctant to change the gearbox oil though.
I thought it was a good idea, as the gear changing is a bit stiffer than my Volvo s80, and I imagined it would prolong the life of the box.
The dealer first suggested it to be an impossible task without removing the box, but later merely said it was very diffcult, and not recommended unless the clutch was to be changed too. This is contrary to what the Haynes manual implies (2 spanners).
The dealer has, over the years gone out of its way to cater for my demands, and I feel is one of the best in terms of professionalism and courtesy. However, this matter has left me rather confused. Your thoughts? Read more
Furthermore, when the original fluid first came
out, it was rather metallic in appearance - suggesting that some
bits were flowing round the 'box.
I found a rather worrying chunk of metal when I drained mine, but it didn't seem to stop the box working properly! Looks like it was perhaps a chunk of gear tooth or something.....
I saw from an advert in the paper today that the new Transit is available in Front Wheel Drive or Rear Wheel Drive.
I have never heard of a vehicle being offered with these alternatives, has there been any others? Is this an example of how the Transit really is just a chassis that you can build whatever you want to onto in the way of engine, drive and bodystyle? Read more
Triumph Dolomite / 1500 / Toledo - which all ended up being called Dolomites I think.
The Toledo was RWD - the 1500 was FWD - the Dolomite and Sprint were RWD.
Its not a coincidence - ive known cars serviced religiously at a main Rover dealer do well over 100k with no HGF issues BUT they were well service by supplying dealer all their life.
I suspect that the K-series is simply a weak design that needs looking after properly with correct fluids and intervals.
What with all the issues with Rover, its no suprise that many fell out of the dealer network thus leading creating a snowball effect thats hard to undo.
I had a 214 with K-series and ran it to 125k with no probs, but then Im a pedantic car owner who over services his cars and I bought a car that I knew the history of from new.
