Is it possible to buy or request a plate from the DVLA? The various number plate websites only allow the numbers 7, 700 and 777 - I want to use 750. I'm guessing those numbers are all dedicated to private plates. I'm just a standard plate, and it wouldn't matter what year it is.

About 6 months ago Honda replaced the turbo unit in my 2002 Civic CTDI. In last few weeks the car exhaust has starting smoking - grey/blue - which is fine if you want to leave following traffic in a cloud of dust! Honda have run all their diagnostic tests and can find nothing obviously wrong. Oil & water levels fine and no sign of cross contamination. Filters also okay. Apparently Honda UK unable to help - not reported before. At their suggestion, ran some Wynns Turbo3 fuel additive through it, no better.
Any ideas/similar experiences please? Read more
I agree it is a fueling problem but over boosting from the turbo can cause this and again mainly shows when on high load, cruise or lo load almost clear exhaust, thus my question about the turbo/ waste gate and actuator guarantee. Did they check cam and injector timing, Temperature Sensor lazy is a common one, the engine then thinks it is a bit cold. Ask Honda UK what you are supposed to de now as your local Dealer can not find the fault. Perhaps they will direct you to a more experienced dealership. Regards Peter
Seems to be a comfortable car on a budget, but I'd like to have a proper sit/drive in one before acting.
If you have one and wouldn't mind, let me know. Can meet at a pub of your choice, and have a pint or three on me. ;o) Read more
>>whereas you sit "on the Bora">>
I have to quibble with this comment as my Bora's seats are not only extremely comfortable but also firm enough to ensure you arrive feeling fresh even after long trips.
They are also feature excellent height, seat and back adjustments, coupled with a reach and rake steering wheel.

Found these while looking around. They look really useful this drought stricken summer.

Before we head off to the silly thread ...
Ok, MY car has a host of anti-sun protection. I have a concertina-type aluminium-foiled thingy which goes over the dash, is held in place by the visors, and covers the windscreen, one for the back as well, which covers the rear parcel shelf and the speakers.
Back side window has a sucker-attached see-through-able screen to keep the sun off the kiddies in the backseat (transferable from left to right - a bit of Port Out, Starboard Home there).
Now, as any of the colonial types (where the devil IS The Growler, anyway?) will tell you, getting into a car which is at around 60 degrees C, with seats, steering wheel, seatbelt and gearshift at the same temperature, is NOT a pleasant experience.
Especially in shorts.
And the damage caused to dashboards by over-exposure to sun has to be seen to be believed.
Back to Window sox - looks like a dirt-magnet to me! I'll stay with the winnie-the-pooh-and-tigger-too motif, thnx.
Hi as a new member would be grateful for some advice from any techy's out there. My Primera 2 Litre Petrol (W reg on 68k miles) cuts out periodically, usually after braking at junctions - evident by loss of power steering. Car starts ok when key is turned. Also when stationary tick over approx 2000 but will drift down and then recover. thanks in anticipation

many thanks for the response - Note the content of the brown v white but had a bad experience with main dealer some quality issues affecting the car in air con and electric windows after a service and warranty repair although couldn't "pin it" seemed too much of a coincidence. Decided to move on and car now traded.
thanks again
My Zafira has a tendency to kangaroo when first pulling away on a cold engine, probably comes in about 1500 rpm, lasts a few seconds and then doesn't recur until next start up. Also had one incident on a cold day in January when I was really struggling to crawl in heavy traffic, again seemed OK once warmed up properly. Are there ant easy to access sensors that can be checked? Read more
Not sure if this is of any help but on Ford HCS engines, the idle control motor has a switch which determines when you've taken your foot off the accelerator (ie the ECU needs to take over control of idle speed itself).
These sometimes malfunction such that you accelerate away, the switch glitches, making the ECU think that you're idling and therefore cutting back of fuel in a major way. This causes the car to kangaroo in the way you describe.
I don't have any experience of vauxhall engines but this is what i'd be investigating if my fiesta behaved in the way you described.

it was the crank sensor.
Hello all. Just wondered if anybody could help. I've got a Citroen saxo 1.1i desire, and there is a whistling noise which seems to be coming from the front wheel area. Its not a constant noise, but when it happens it lasts a while. It seems to be when i slow down but also at random intervals. Somebody has suggested it could be something to do with the brakes. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Dave Read more
Does it only occur while pressing the brake pedal/just after,if so may be a leaking servo pipe or servo problem.
Dont know the car but sounds like it,but could be wrong?

Hi - just read about this !!!!!
BP are bringing out a new 'hand made' fuel at £2.42 a litre.
They are claiming it will boost perfroamnce by 7.5%
It is a new ultimate 102 octane fuel which will boost perfomance from 4-7.5%
Only 6 garages selling it at the moment.
It will cost £140 to fill up a typical family car.

someone mentioned tax.
Fuel duty will no doubt be at the same rate as petrol, so proportionally the same cost as 95RON or 97RON petrol.
I run a grey import turbo that likes 100RON fuel as the ECU is mapped for this, and I know a lot of chaps on the forum I use will be interested in this.
Crazy in my opinion - I pay £1.02 for Optimax as it is (about 4% extra cost), but I doubt the extra performance will really be worth the 137% price hike for 102ron.
Still, fools and their money are easily parted.
