My attorney is on the case already, how dare anyone allow the family nom-de-guerre be plagiarised, and on a wretched cage at that!
It was always Uncle Ebenezer's dying wish that the family legacy be applied only to Harley-Davidsons and the business surrounding them thereof.
Often imitated, seldom equalled I guess.

A Question for the BIB, legal experts etc. I may have been recorded speeding, I was doing about an indicated 80 on a duel carriageway approaching a traffic car with an officer deploying what appeared to be an old fashioned hand-held gun. I slowed down on seeing the marked car. I wasn?t stopped but there was no sign of a second police vehicle. If I have been caught it?s a fair cop. However, I was on a short visit back to the UK while in the middle of a 6month overseas contract. I have primed my wife to look out for any NIP but what I need to know is what I / my wife can do in respect to my licence which I need physically to have with me should this happen. My wife is able to produce insurance and MoT certificates. It takes approx 5 days to DHL documents to my current location, therefore sending docs back and forth is likely to be slow. Any help or sources of information would be welcome. Thanks in anticipation. Read more
Yes. All they want is the money. I was in a similar but slightly different position recently when a car registered in my name in the UK was clocked speeding and the NIP was sent for my attention. As I am 5000 miles away, my wife filled in the form with the name of the suspected driver, left it unsigned and added a note saying I couldn't sign it and return within the specified time. Result was a FPN by return to the driver and nothing more as far as I was concerned. However, the driver also got a NIP for driving an articulated Scania at excess speed somewhere in Northamptonshire!
The NIP does have a section relating to the driver having left the country which is supposed to be filled in by the registered keeper. You could always suggest someone else fills that in with your details but leaves it unsigned and wait and see. If a NIP arrives, get it scanned and e-mailed if possible so you can read the small print. I don't know where you are but DHL cost me £50 one-way as a one-off recently and even using a company account now it is £25 each way. Since you probably don't want to entrust your driving licence to the normal post, it adds quite a lump to a standard fine.
My car was keyed pretty recently. Aside from having a rant about how I can understand someone wanting to steal from me but mindless vandalism being the mark of a cowardly piece of *$&!£ with no *%&$*& and deteriorating into series of expletives, I have a question.
This now means that two of the four cars I've owned have been keyed in my ownership. Looking at other cars around London I've started noticing lots of other cars have been keyed as well. How many times have people here had their cars keyed? What percentage of us have had our current cars keyed? Have I just been unlucky or is this really that widespread a problem? Read more
In 40 years of car ownership I've not had one vandalised
in any way. It must depend on where you park.
In 28 years of car ownership I've never had a car vandalised, however a lot of people have no choice where they park and/or live. I have always lived in a rural area where I could park my car well off any road when at home.
I sympathise very deeply with decent car owning people who live in town and have to put up with this .
Hi I usually do my own servicing, but my Father has a Jaguar that he purchased from a main dealer, and is taking in for its first service. The dealer has told him that there is an insurance charge for providing a courtesy car ! is this normal ? I thought you normally drove a courtesy car on your own third party cover and they insured the vehicle itself under their dealer policy. He rang his own insurers and they wanted the full details of the courtesy car such as year of manufacture and value etc which he had no idea of and wanted to charge about £50 !.
2 weeks ago this same dealer threw me the keys of a brand new 4.2 litre supercharged XK8 and said give it a go ( on my own ) without even asking if I had a licence let alone insurance !. Which was especially stupid as there was no way I was ever going to buy a car which cost more than my mortgage .

Concur with CG re NU Direct foc courtesy car cover.
I have always wondered this - I mean the conventional boxes not the rubber band jobbies or the DSGs.
I guess what I'm asking is how do they actually change, what is it that initiates and executes this. Obviously in this day and age there are electronic sensors, but autos have been around for a long time so originally it must be a hardware mechanism.
Many thanks P Read more
Like Snopes, it's one of those web-sites where you can waste many a lunch time.
This morning around 10.30 ,temperature 22C I was heading South on the old A3 between Liphook and Rake when a council gritter/snowplough complete with blade passed me heading North actually gritting the road! Do they know something that we don't? DeeJay. Read more
There were a few going around the Birmingham area - but they were not actually putting down any grit. The council were just training new drivers.
Maybe the person at the wheel in your case was not a very good pupil...
I have an 02 mazda 626 estate with rear discs. It appears that the handbrake operates by pushing the disc pads via the piston. A change of pads looks possible by removing the top calliper pin and tilting the calliper. However, what is the procedure for pushing back the handbrake linked poiston and how is the handbrake adjusted after the new pads are installed? All tips gratefully received and does anyone know of a workshop manual or CD (perhaps on the American market)? i have been unable to locate one in the UK. Thank you.

Thank you all; I reckon that if I first check the allen screw position then I should be able to return the handbrake to its correct adjustment. I didn't know there was an allen screw there.
The car computer decided that the beast was due for a service. Well last week it said 5000 to go but it's more convenient for me to get it done now. Took it in to the main Vauxhall dealer today. £130. The service indicator had been re set to 15 000 'till the next service instead of 30 000 miles and they'd used a semi synthetic oil instead of the fully synthetic in the engine. Also a 10 -40 oil instead of a 0 -40.
They're getting the car back tomorrow to do the job properly and if they make me pay I'll start off with 'My employer values my time at £27 an hour and I've already wasted another afternoon here'
If they hold the car to ransom I'll have to pay but 'see you in court' Read more
Oh my goodness "new EEC regulations mean that only someone equipped to deal with an oil spill should be handling oil.". So that's all of the oil going off the shelves at Halfords then and the end of the dipstick.
Trouble is, H&S gets more ridiculous, so I find it easy to believe.

HI
Just a query why do all the French auto boxes have a harsh change when slowing down. Is this a design fault that they all share...The jap and german ones feel just the same speeding up and slowing down?
Thanks

There is no such thing as a French specific auto box
the few manufacturers out their supply to all auto makers ,if
your box is clunky then it is probably faulty or worn
diff,drive shafts etc.

Ahem.. Renault make their own and have done so for many decades. They are not very good IMHO. Peugeot have generally stuck with ZF (e.g. the 4HP14 and 4HP18 FWD 'boxes - they can be a bit 'sharp' when downshifting).
I paid to get a valuation of my car to use during negotiations with an Audi dealer. The trade in price was £5800. I told him that's what I wanted. He went away doing the 'talk to my manager' thing and came back offering me £4800. He said the book he has contains the real prices and that Glass's online valuations aren't right!
Needless to say, I'm going to sell my car privately. Read more
No doubt someone would be pleased to do so if the
details of the actual Audi mentioned such as model, engine, age,
mileage etc were posted...:-)

Yep, next thing will be a fat buff envelope from some flash lawyers requiring you to cease and desist using Th* Gr*wl*r or anything that could be construed as passing off that name.
I always knew it would catch up with you one day ;-)
