I'm tring to remove the wiper arms on my 51 plate Golf IV. I've removed the black caps, undone the 13mm nuts and pulled and pulled. I've WD40'd. I've wiggled. I've even put the nuts on loosely and tapped with a hammer. Nothing. 3 years of Brighton Sea Breezes have welded them on! Anyone any other suggestions for getting them off?
(Reason: I've bought the later Bosch Aero arms and blades. Combined with the Polo Aero rear arm they look good and perform well...)

Thanks

Here in the trade we use battery terminal pullers to remove wiper arms that are tight or siezed.

Mk4 golf wipers are usually ok to remove the old fasioned way. Slacken the nut, and apply pressure at the hinge part of the wiper arm with the palm of the hand to "break" the seal as such, then fully remove the nut and lift off. This is presuming you have already soaked the spindle in WD40.

Apply a small amount of copper grease on reassembly with the new arms.

OK so I got my renewal from Bennetts. It quoted a renewal price (with Axa) PLUS a better price from Hastings.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME ANY RENEWAL HAS INCLUDED THIS INFORMATION.

I checked and the Hastings price is the best going so I just renewed with Bennetts.

Hi all, the passenger front window in my car won't go down further than say a few inches. also when you close it, the windows reaches the closed position and then comes straight back down again to the quarter open position?? I thought that maybe the window wasn't closing properly cos of an obstruction but I can't find anything in the window frame that could be causing it.

Any ideas greaty appreciated

hello mate ive been fiddiling round today with my windows on my 98 passat sport.not sure if this will help, but i think you have to learn the motor mechanism when the window is fully up. ( i think) you do this by turning the ign on and then off then hold the window switch in the up postion for a few seconds, then lower the window , to make sure it opens fully,.
hope that makes sense! , it worked ok on mine, its upto you if you want to try it on your car though.
cheers

Made me laugh because this was knock for knock in a literal sense;

Having pit stopped at the Maccy D / Agip petrol station pull in on the Czech-German border at Rozvadov, the missus and I had just sat back in the car when we watched something unfold in slow motion but with predictable consequences.

A new Toyota AYGO (the first I have seen, funnily enough in the land of its construction, though with lurid 'dirty handprint' graphics all over it advertising something or other) was reversed out of its slot at the same time as a VW Passat Estate on German plates was reversed out of its slot. Probably distracted by some scantily dressed and very pleasant scenery that was de-coaching to one side, neither driver (both men!) checked behind; with a loud bang, the cars hit each other fair and square.

Beyond minor paint crazing on the Passat and a bumper trim insert that popped out (and was subsquently popped back in) on the AYGO, no apparent damage, but very red faces from the drivers as the oforementioned 'scenery' laughed their collective heads off! Read more

If I were the driver of the Aygo, after having got over the embarrassment of owning one, I'd be made up! Having a smash and being able to put my car back together on the scene would be great!

I have a 2 litre 1998 's' Primera. It has leather and all that and I really like it. Fuel consumption is okay 35-37 mpg and it does me okay. I want to keep it for a couple of years longer. It is has now done 93,500 miles and ticks over like it did when I bought it in Jan 2001.I get it serviced yearly and change the oil about every 5000 miles.
Has anyone got any tips about what I should do to keep it running ?? All tips welcome.. Read more

Post '96 Primera shouldn't really suffer from rust. You'll find more rust on a Merc of the same age!

Somewhere on here in the dim distant past I went on record as have never seeing a marked traffic car on the M40 despite regularly using this motorway. Unmarked cars yes, but no marked cars.

Well, I now take this back, I have been up and down between Banbury and up north via the M40 several times in the past fortnight, and am pleased to say that on every single occasion I have seen at least one, sometime 2-3 marked traffic cars usually on the hard shoulder having a talk to a car driver that has recently passed me using excessive speed. (No I wasnt staying exactly to 70mph either).

Nice to see some visible policing. Unmarked car was there as well!

My engine management light has come on and off a few times over the past few weeks,by using a paperlip, I get the code 0340 Crankshaft Sensor.I have taken the car to a garage who claim that the code is a Memeory Code not a Fault Code. Could they be correct? What is the difference between these two codes?
I suspect I am being fobbed off. Thanks. The system is Simtec 56.5 Read more

Thanks DD, I did do the paperclip test with the engine off. I have been told they have now cleared the memory, early days yet (only five miles covered on collecting car). But I do feel more confident with the garage for your reply. Thank you very much.

My other half's 318Ci (E46, 2000V) broke down yesterday, and rather than go straight to the Dealer, I thought I'd try some of the recommended garages on the site for it to be towed to. For all three of those that I tried (PDQ in Bexleyheath & Chislehurst, Steve King Sidcup), the number proved to be unobtainable. Ended up at a place recommended by the Green Flag guy. Perhaps these need to be updated?

Cheers,

Alex.

Ok I was reversing into a parking space when a black cab drove into the back of my car. This was witmessed by my husband who was waiting across the street. Neither of us was going more than a couple of miles an hour and the only damage I had on my car was a small dent that was pushed out and a new tail light.

We swapped details and his insurance people wrote to me and I replied that we were not at fault and totally refuted his claim.

I heard nothing for EIGHT months and assumed the taxi driver had come to his senses. A loss adjuster working for the taxi driver phoned me this week and has admitted that the file got mislaid and now the case is being revived.

We didn't call our insurance company at the time as the damage was so minimal it wasn't worth losing the no-claims, I have now been told I've broken the law - is that right? I'm also concerned that in the past 8 months (doubtless) the taxi driver has had the vehicle mended and we have lost our chance to vet the repair estimate to make sure we're not paying for every dent he's got.

Any advice??????
