I have 1 year old Citroen C5 which I think is blinding value for money. However it is equiped with factory fitted Xenon headlights and Citroen have no way of modifying them for use on holiday in Right Hand Drive Countries i.e. France! They tell me that you should not use stck on converters or even stone guards due to the exra heat produced. Has anyone got any ideas how I can stay legal abroad?

Thanks - I'll continue with that thread. (It helps now I know where the "Forum Search" link is!

Hello,
I have a 93 Rover 218 sld which fails to turn off the engine at the key. I understand this could be a problem with the fuel cutoff solenoid - after checking on tinternet what one looks like where would be the best place on the car to start looking for it.
Thanks Read more
Is this the cutoff solenoid to the Peugeot diesel engine? It is on the diesel pump itself, if this is what you are after. You will need a deep thin socket to get it off
My mate has managed to scrap the works van against a farm gate, which has left big black streaks of cresote and black paint on the vans white paint. Does anyone here have any ideas as to what he can use to remove this cresote mix off without taking the vans paint off as well? Anything that can make it less obvious to his boss would be much appreciated!
Many thanks :) Read more
Thank you Dave, we must have been typing at the same time! I think luck was on his side as the creosote was sticky so we got to remove it before it dried. By torchlight it looks good but daylight will be the real test!
Many thanks for your ideas though :)

This was on my local radio station shortly after he passed away. He was a trained "stage" dog and appeared in several films, including the remake of 101 dalmations with real people and animals (as distinct from the cartoon version, ovbiously). Wonder how long it took to train him to drive a Galaxy? - or why his "owner" in the ads didn't leave it in gear when parked; the Gal is known for having a handbrake that eases off after it's been parked for a while.
Can anybody please help me. My Megane speedo has stopped working. It started a few months ago when the speedo was a little erratic and kept bouncing up and down. I then replaced the head gasket and since then it is not working. The speedo is electronic and when i drive the diagnostic light comes on. Could it be an earth problem? Any ideas would be great. Many thanks Read more
this is a fairly common fault on Megane range.usually caused by wiring problems to road speed sensor.Locate sensor at rear of gearbox ,access from top of engine bay, check 3-pin connector & wire in an additional earth lead to negative line.(could be black but check it). This will also cause the diag light to illuminate.
Don't know if anyone can help! I'm looking to buy my first car of my own (have driven parents thus far). It's going to ahve to do motorway mileage so I don't want anything as little as a Ford Ka because if anything happened I'd rather be in something more substantial. I was thinking of a 206 or a Clio but both of these are being relaunched and I tend to think I'd be better waiting for the new ones if those are the ones I pick. Alternatviely I might be able to go to a Mini, a base level Megane and a base level Golf.
The otehr reason for needing a bigger car is the town imleage iwll involve lugging about vast amounts of rugby kit. As long as the seats go down I think I'll be ok but the club used to have a huge mitsubishi truck for this purpose. Should I go for petrol or diesel? I've always driven diesels (first a 206 then the C3) so know that they're slighly more economical (and I will be doing potentially a reasonable amount of travelling) but will it be worth the extra cost?
I am style conscious and despair at my dad's idea of a honda jazz (for grandpas). I also don't like his C3 because I feel like Noddy in it. I'm planning to buy new and so want to like whatever I spend my hard earnt money on!
Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks Read more
I'm guessing that the budget here is about £12k. I take it that the priorities are for motorway cruising, a bit of space, five doors (?), good handling, a nice bit of kit and decent performance.
I'm also guessing that brand image is important. That might rule out a Skoda Fabia vRS for you, which is a shame, because it gives 55 mpg, astonishing performance, decent handling and a fair bit of space in an easy to drive package for £11k.
A diesel is a good idea if you're doing above about 15k miles per year, or if you just like them - it's financially neutral from about 5k - 15k p.a.
Another alternative - again it's a bit boring but very good - is a Focus. No style though, particularly the new model, I'm afraid :-(
A Mégane should come with a huge discount - under £12k for a 130 bhp Dynamique, which is very well equipped and very fast and economical. An equivalent Golf would easily be £3k more. However there are question marks over the reliability of the Mégane, which is the only thing stopping it from being a blindingly good buy. It's safe, too, though not especially spacious for its size.
If you want a MINI, avoid the diesel - it's a bit slow unfortunately.
I witnessed the following whilst waiting in the showroom of a main dealer of a well known make of car.
Two salesmen trying to start a brand new car which had been standing in the showroom for over four weeks. Initial attempt showed flat battery, salesman 1 brought in a battery pack on wheels and connected it to car's battery; big crackle and spark. Salesman 2 attempts start, nothing happens for two minutes but battery pack starts to become exhausted, so he continues turning engine but at the same time pumping the accelerator. Battery pack expires. Salesman 1 brings in a heavy duty charger and connects it to car battery they try again to start the car, no joy.
I asked No 1 what they intended to do with the car, "Oh it's sold we want to get it on the front to make room here for another model". Read more
Quite common - they use portable ramps.
Bit of advise if I may. I need to re-tap a hole which secures the tranmission bearer to the chassis of my Ford fiesta MK3 as I have stripped the tread on 2 of the 4 mounting holes on removal. My question is how easy is it to re tap a hole with a tap and die set and as the original hole carried a bolt with a 17mm head will I have to go the next size up or can I restore the hole to the original size.
Many Thanks

12mm will be a bit close. A 12mm bolt will be about 11,8 or 11,9mm diameter. You may be lucky, but can you not drill 12mm and use a round file to open the hole up? I am assuming that it is in a bracket, so you only need to open it up enough to get the bolt to fit. If the existing threads are not too bad you may be able to clean them up with either a tap or a bolt with a cut across the end of it.
Looking forward to the race Sunday, interesting to note though this will be last race with a sunday qualifying session. It's reverting back to single lap saturday from Nurbergring onwards.
Btw, anyone know why Monaco is the only race of the season were nothing happens on a Friday? (free practise was yesterday) Read more
Ah, OK, now I get it. What I meant in
my first post was ITV can only show and repeat what
they see.
Thats not my understanding of TV coverage.
The output of every camera, regardless of where it is pointing, is recorded.
The TV director chooses the live coverage as he sees fit. He can show, at any point during the race, a recording of an incident he feels important. That is why we often see(retrospectively) a crash that wasn't shown during live coverage.
Individual TV companies go to commercial breaks as they see fit; but coverage of the race continues.
After the race a TV company can select the recorded tape from any of the cameras.
