In another topic it was mentioned that a speedo could have up to 10% error (ie 70 mph is actually 63 mph), but not the other way round. This leads me to think about how accurate are the odometers. Are these 100% accurate or do these have a built in error of reading like the speedo. Could this mean a 70,000 mile reading is actually only 63,000 miles?

Are there any Backroomers that have heard of, or used a company, by the name of 'Hadrian Bodypanels' ( www.carpanels.co.uk/ ) at all? I've seen a bonnet advertised on eBay.co.uk for my PUG (item # 4544946562), where the Seller identifies it as having been made by/bought from these people.
I've visited the WWW and they seem genuine enough...but I've never really had any need to deal with body panels in isolation from an 'Insurance Authorised Repairer' (IE: when I've been invovled in a prang!) and @ £15 the bonnet seems cheap enough. My next problem will be to find someone conpetant enough to pre it and spray it the right colour - since fixing it doesn't appear too difficult. Anyhoo, anyone got any experience please?

Ok you Formula1 detractors.
Schumachers middle section drive from 12 to third. Driving of utter brilliance with stunning machinery.
Button - poked with a pointy stick by Schumacher and yelping out of the way, sold down the river by being blocked into back markers by the master.
And Alonso 12 laps of superb defensive driving, slowing the whole thing down so he didnt get blocked into back markers, keeping a rampantly quick red beast on a chain,
If you cant see this as motorsport at its phsycological & technological peak you are blind!
Oh and thanks ITV - an ad break 3.5 laps from the end? DOH Read more

Did anyone else noticed that the Ferrari had "Fiat" on the
nose? I wonder if the ailing parent finally is after some
return from their F1 investment.
Fiat has been on F1 Ferrari's since the early 80's.
Hi,
over the years a few people have said they havefully comp insurance on all cars. I've always thought this was their confusion over 3rd party for all cars being on their policy, with fully comp on their own vehicle.
My argument against such insurance, is that you can insure a Mini fully comp, and then smash up a rolls royce or Ferrari and the insurance company still ends up paying.
So the question is, does such insurance exist for private motorists?
cheers

>>For the record, insuring it in the parent's name is fine, if they own the car. But do be careful about who you identify as the main user. I know its cheaper if you say the parent is, but if its not true, you're asking for trouble.>>
As I explained, that is exactly what I did...:-)
What's more, GRE used to be one of my insurers. In fact it was based about five miles from me as the crow flies across the Ribble Estuary at Lytham St Annes.
It's still based there but is now under the AEGON UK umbrella.

I am not one of this category you understand. I come from the chemical industry, salary based, and where (modest!) salary increases were based on performance against agreed objectives - Performance (or Profit) Related Pay - the final judge being (e.g.) the Sales Manager who has continuous responsibility to monitor / counsel, etc.
I may be wrong, but new car dealerships seem always to work on the principle that salepersons' earnings are mainly decided by how many cars they sell. This surely involves a large element of luck? In this situation I'd worry every time I took lunch / sick leave / holiday / go to the loo - or indeed get involved in any protracted non-sales discussion (e.g. pure service).
What I have learned at a dealership near me is that there is a considerable amount of tension between salespersons on the basis that one of them appears to the others to be creaming off more business than the others for no good reasons.

I have a 1992 toyota celica 2.0 gti coupe and need to carry out some engine repairs. I have a Haynes repair manual which covers the following engine types....3S-FE, 3S-GE, 4A-FE, 5S-FE and 7A-FE. The engine number is 3S9172213.The car is badged as a gti but the registration document states gt. I have narrowed it down to either the3S-GE, 4A-FE or 7A-FE. Please can you explain how i can determine which type engine is fitted before I start working on it? The car is a uk registered vehicle. I would appreciate any feedback you have whatsoever.
Thanks
Pete.

The engine in your Celica is definately a 3S-GE (3S-GTE if its a turbo GT4 model). This should be marked on the upper timing belt cover.
The 3S-FE is the 2 litre in the Carina, 4A-FE is the Corolla engine, 5S-FE is the 2.2 litre Camry engine (also in US model Celicas), and I think the 7A-FE is the 1.8 litre in the 6th generation Celica (yours is a 5th generation pop up headlight model)
It is a GTi,(or GT if you prefer, same difference!) but if you need to get parts, they will need the model designation which is ST182, (or ST185 if its a GT4 turbo model)

I have a 2001 MB E class 320 CDI estate with 124,000 miles.
The front suspension is noisy on bumpy roads, it has been suggested that it might be worn anti-roll bar bushes.
Can anyone confirm, or suggest a different solution? Any idea of cost? Read more
What do you mean by "noisy" ?
Rattling, squeaking, banging?
Do you feel anything through the steering wheel?
Are there clunks on full steering wheel travel ie to full left, full right and the same in reverse?

I have got a major problem with engine oil entering into the airfilter housing, clogging up the filter and dripping onto engine. I have checked all breather hoses and there stubs and all is clean. I understand from the previous owner that the head gasket and rocker cover gaskets have also been replaced. The vehicle passed the MOT with emmissions well within the spec. Any advice please? I bought an Honda Insight last month and it is the most amazing car - the technology makes most modern cars seem outdated. The main benefit is the fuel economy. I can regularly average 90+ mpg over my 90 mile commute and last week for 22 miles on the motorway averaged 103 mpg between Wigan and Preston going North on the M6 (which is by no means flat!) with my speed between 55-65mph. There is no other production car that can match that. If I were to increase the tyre pressures I could get 100mpg on a regular basis. And this is on cheap unleaded not diesel. Read more
The magic of the TON,to advertise the capabilities of their new Morris Minor, this was the one with an 833cc OHC engine,Morris arranged two runs,in one the car achieved 100mpg,and in the other 100mph,it was driven by Mrs.K.Peters a well known racing driver in the early 1930s.Needless to say much tweaking went on between the two runs.

Hello RF
Just shows you can still learn something every day. I always thought they were mile markers, not kilometer markers.
