We all know RF's 1st choice car is his Laguna II and that he's also got a new Bentley Continental Type R (regn. 3RF). Well today I've spotted his other, other car - it's an Aston Martin DB7 Vantage regn. 22RF.
Must say I liked the car a lot but whilst I didn't catch sight of our enigmatic BackRoom buddy at the wheel, Mrs RF was as hot as they come - more curves than the car, seriously ;)
Just goes to show that giving up fags has its benefits :)
Incidentally, there were a lot of very nice cars around Lakeside today - I also got a very nice look at a Noble GTO somethingorother on the M25. Stunning! Read more
Hi all,
I was topping up the water in the car this afternoon and saw what looked like oil sitting at the top. Where could this be coming from?
TIA

Thanks for the advice - I'm getting the mechanic to have another look at it to see if anything's glaringly obvious, just while he fixes the gasket.
Mind you, after having to get the bus into work, I'm beginning to think any price is worth paying for a shorter (drier) journey!!
:-)
Many Thanks,

Has anyone replaced the fuel filter on a Ford Focus and if so how!!!!!!!
I've located the filter but cannot remove the one fuel line due to the position of the clip.
The bracket also appears impossible to remove due to the position of the nut and bolt.
Any input would be appreciated!!!!! Read more
I changed mine last year - an arkward little job! I found I could get to the bracket bolt using a small socket set. The clips were just plain tricky. I can't remember exactly how they came off, but I managed with nothing more than a small screwdriver or two to open the clip. I think I removed the bracket before removing the second clip.
Clearly the higher you can get the car the better. I managed it with just a pair of ramps, although I had the grazed knuckles to show for it!

Alarm has developed a notion to go off for no apparent reason. Siren was suspected but after Vauxhall decoded, not thought to be the cause. Problem is intermittent.

Dave, thanks for your thoughts. Since Vauxhall have played with the codes the ultrasonic now enables itself after a brief period even though central locking not used. Is it possible they have changed a parameter along the way?

"..they had three different contaners"
Glad to hear that it wasn't two - one mineral, one synthetic, with a mixing valve for semi-synth... :-)
Wiling away a wet Saturday morning, did plan to go for a run on the ZX7R, just looking on the Yamaha website, they have an archive section, interesting as to how contemporary the '92 FZR1000 looks both in design and colour scheme, (red, white and blue) however the '95 colour scheme with dark purples etc looks way out of date now.
It was the same for most of the other manufacturers, mid '90's Fireblades, CBR600's, GSXR's, ZZR's, ZXR's etc can look very dated now though those from approx '89 to '92 look the business, really all down to colours.

I spent half an hour adoring this object of red beauty
Me too.
as the whole bike just seems so "right".
Agree completely. Bike had a good article last month with views from all angles and I couldn't find anything to dislike at all. Just enough of the 916 / 996 to see the family resemblance, but definitely adds its own special "something". I love the view from the right rear quarter. Lithe and sexy with curves in all the right places. Just like a Ducati sportsbike should be.
Cheers

PS - The 999 used to bring me out in hives just looking at it. I thought it was hideous.
My 1990 Passat estate central locking works fine from outside with the key but from the inside will not operate. If you push the knob down inside on the drivers door it should lock all the doors but does not. Any technical advice appreciated..... Read more
On my Passat the doors should lock by pushing down the locking knobs, and pushing down the drivers one from inside should lock all the doors (says this in the manual), but on mine it does not seem to happen, I can lock each door individually but not all from the drivers door. There is no lock control on the dash or door unfortunately.....
Whilst sitting in a tailback yesterday, a shiny red 406 Coupe drew up alongside me. Wow!!!
It was absolutely beautiful, not a mark on it and , it would appear, not been modified in any way since new. I decided there and then I wanted one, albeit I will need to wait a couple of years!
Then looked at some on ebay and the sunken leather seats in the rear look great and there are some cracking examples on there as well.
Then I read CBCB and the first line of HJ's review is
Jawdropping Pininfarina styling. One of the best looking cars in the world.
Couldn't agree more. Now, I know it is based on a humble 406 repmobile but is this car going to be a Q car of the future? Other similar sized cars I can think of are the Royale, Monza, Calibra, Probe Cougar etc but they would seem to have very little appeal just now, especially the Fords.

I'll see if I can get some more details from him but Volvotrier (posts here occasionally) has got a 2.0 406 coupe. In general he is very pleased with it - performance, comfort, toys etc.
The one big drawback though is the gearing...apparently 70mph in 5th it's revving like the clappers and quite noisy. Spoils an otherwise excellent car.
I have a neighbour who is a VERY annoying trader-without-premises. Basically, he buys cars at the local auction, chavs them up a bit and then flogs them off in (I presume) Autotrader.
He usually has about 6+ cars abandoned in various places around our estate, so every time he abandons one near my house (especially if he blocks by normal parking spot) without a tax disc on it, I take great pleasure in phoning the local nick to report him!
Amusingly, this week he abandoned a Jeep Cherokee and I dutifuly reported it to the old bill. Minutes later they old bill phoned back and asked me to check the registration number. I did and it was as I had previously advised them.
Here's the amusing part:
NOT ONLY HAD IT GOT NO TAX, IT WAS ON FALSE NUMBER PLATES!!!!!
How I laughed as the police took it away! Read more
Our local Constabulary has a policy ! If the local Beat Officer, PCSO or Traffic Officer comes accross an untaxed car, they phone a DVLA hotline, which confirms that the car is a bad 'un, it then gets towed away...btill. The reason that mobile phones were invented surely.
A friend of mine has just bought a £32k porsche. He reckons he'll be able to run it for a year and sell it for the same price at the end of the year. Now apart from servicing, cost of cash etc this means he'll be driving round in an expensive car for free. I'm not so sure - surely it can't be done.
I know people may pay extra to jump waiting lists etc, but once used don't Porsche's experience the 'normal' depreciation curve?
Thanks Read more
True enthusiasts don't have asbestos fingers either. In fact they probably get burnt more as they would be more likely to hang on to a money pit because, well, they are enthusiasts.

Glad to see you have met the missus. She said she was going to the Gym, but I see she went to lakeside again :(
