I was driving down the M1 to Luton yesterday. At one point I was in the outside lane about to overtake a car in the middle lane when a BMW came up behind me at some pace. I particularly noticed it, because its headlights were on and the nearside light was way out of adjustment. Anyway, the driver could not wait for me to overtake the car, as he dived inside me and was attempting to pull out in front of me. By this time I was close to the car in the middle lane and such a manoeuvre would have put us all in danger, so I accelerated, got in front of the car and then found the BMW driver trying to do the same thing, as I started to overtake the lorry that was now in front of me, in the middle lane. So I accelerated past the lorry. I have to say that I hadn't been travelling slowly at the time the BMW came up behind me (about 80 mph).

On getting past the lorry, the road was clear ahead, so I pulled over into the middle lane to let the BMW past. However, as he pulled alongside me he slowed down to my speed, put on his nearside indicator and started to pull over towards me. I had to take action to avoid a collision and, at that point, began to wonder what I was dealing with. The BMW pulled in front of me and the driver braked, fortunately, not too hard. At that point he decided against further stupidity.

I stayed well away from him as he drove on in front of me but I noticed that he carried on with his strategy of going past vehicles on the inside and then pulling out in front of them. The driver obviously has the attitude that anyone in front of him is impeding his progress unreasonably, and should get out of the way immediately.

I thought about taking the registration number and reporting him to the police but that would have been pointles, as I was alone. Read more

Similar experience on the Hogs Back (A31) on Friday. In this case I was in the BMW and like others in front of me, sitting on the 60mph limit. Suddenly, a goon in a black Golf appeared rapidly and large in the rear view mirror. I immediately started to move over on the basis that the smart idea is always to allow idiots to put distance between themselves and me.
He undertook anyway and repeated the same manoeuvre further on.
No point in calling up the Bill - I suspect they would have been on camera duty on the A325 in Farnborough anyway, detecting drivers doing 34 in the 30 limit zones.

i have a 98 veccy 2.0 DTI LS and I'm fitting a GLS interior as a cheap revamp.
Are all vectra looms the same i.e the door cards all have kerb lights fitted

All help appreciated

You'll probably find that the harnesses are different - the door may not have the harness for the kerb lamps / mirrors. The Haynes manual gives the wires and colours for each part and is a good starting point to check existing wiring against. I have schematics if you need help.

How do you change the pollen filter on one of these? I know it lives under the dash but not even the main agent was sure. Judging from the 'orrible smell and non-existent airflow the dealer she has been taking it to didnt bother either!

My Volvo 940 TDic is 13 years old it has its original battery. Twice in the past couple of weeks I have been asked to give jump starts to much younger cars. Are modern batteries made to a lower standard? Having looked at the one in my new Outback it does look a bit insubstantial but then it's a petrol engine. Also the old Volvo battery needs topping up every three months or so whereas the new one has a label saying no additions are necessary; can't believe that. Read more

The car is now 5 years old and probably does not need full dealer servicing from now on. Therefore does anyone know of an independant Honda garage who can service my car?.....I live in the North Staffordshire area around Stoke.
Cheers

Happy Blue!

My parents each had Hondas which were 13 years old when sold. They were alwasy servied at teh local dealer who knew them so well that they were able to drive the car away after a service and the bill would come in the post a few days later.

If there was the slightest problem, they would pop up and it would be seen to for no charge whilst they waited (Very rare - usually brake pads or an exhuast weld). That's why they always go to main dealers.

The owners of the Little Chef chain are trying to sell off most of their outlets, keeping only those adjacent to Travelodges. These will probably be re-branded, so Little Chef may disappear from Britain's roadsides.

Will anyone shed a tear? Not me.

If ever a business deserved to die, it is Little Chef. These ghastly places offer overpriced junk food served by badly trained staff and very poor value for money.

Does anyone still frequent these places, and if so, why? Read more

I used to run a 1965 Elan S2. Believe it or not I borrowed a works official manual from the library! I had to order it, and expected no joy, but it was available in a couple of days. A very kind young lady at work photocopied the whole thing for me. I used to use Christopher Neil sports cars in Northwich, Cheshire. They are still going. They did mail order and always seemed to have parts and knowledge.
Unfortunatly the manual and the car are now in Finland.

Question Clio crankshaft
Richie_green

I have just been told by our mechanic that our clio is noisy due to a problem with the crankshaft. I am not a knowledagble person when it comes to cars so dont know how serious this is.
Is it a costly repair?

Cheers
