The north side of SWMBO cars get algae on the window rubbers.
Any ideas about removal or prevention of same?

Just bought a pair of Vredestein Quatrac-2 for the front of my Passat.According to websites they are meant to give better grip in cold conditions and in light snow but be fine for all year round usage. As I commute up into the Peak District thought I'd try them.
So far they seem OK and gripped well in the recent snow.
Anyone else had experience with them? I'm hoping that they are still OK in the hotter weather.
[My previous Euromasters wore reasonably for me ,and were down to 2 1/2 mm at 14,000 miles but I changed them as grip was becoming ever poorer in wet and slippery conditions]

Ok, ladies & gents,
I, Like many more of us drive a bog standard car (Mondeo) & would like to buy some new tyres. Is it me, or is there very little information out there about which ones are are the best. I usually go for Michelins but I hear all sorts of opinions on whether they are good or bad in wet or dry etc.
I also see lots of threads here about how cirtain tyres are brilliant but generally that tends to be how the writer feels about them
Amongst all the experts out there is there anyone who really knows about tyres who could share some technical details/experience with us all so that we can make an informed choice, or is it just down to buy a well known brand & it will be OK
I not due to part with my cash for a week or two so I would be thankfull for any help

Thanks for all the info, doesn't sound as if there is a lot between all the major brands so cannot go wrong.
I've done 140K trouble free on michelin but I might just shop around to see what I can get some of the others for, just for the hell of it really - nothing against michelin
Car is due for MOT soon. Not had a problem with emissions in the past but its not something I can check at home before I take car to garage like I can with lights etc.
Just wondered is there any benefit in my adding something like Redex to the tank prior to going for the test? Our fitter in work suggested it would be a good idea, they did it with the workshop van when it failed on emissions, but it them passed the next day after adding it and driving around for a day. New air filter, or possibly remove the filter if it's really marginal.
Hello,
The small company I run has two small vans on the road, mid December a car driver reversed into one of them, not our driver's fault, the van was undrivable due to bent front suspension.
Van goes to accident repair centre (ACR), a week later the MOT expires, can't MOT due to accident damage, 31st Dec tax expires, we chase the ACR and the insurance company, initially we expect the van back mid Jan, end up getting it back this week, 11 weeks after the accident!
We now find that we are liable for arrears under SORN plus potentially a fine, how can this be right, the van was not off the road or untaxed out of choice, also we expected to get the van back anytime from mid Jan so would have need to MOT it and tax it immediatley at that point, Sorn would have delayed matters.
Any thoughts?

Spoken to the DVLA, no problem paying the arrears on the tax, my issue is the principal of it when the availability of the vehicle for use, MOT and tax is out of the owners hands. And no, the circumstance around a vehicle being unavailable to be MOT'd due to an RTA is not there in black and white (or green) on the V11 renewal form.
Regards.
I ordered a battery conditioner and a car cover from deleted in early December. I heard nothing and in January I tried to contact them by email and phone. No response to email or phone messages. So I sent an email cancelling the order. Today (three months later) I received the car cover complete with credit card slip - "card holder not present".
I have bought another cover elsewhere in the meantime so do not need this one. I have written to them asking for a refund and asking them to collect the cover; based on previous experience I do not expect a fast response.

Under the distance buying legislation you can return an item within a period of seven days for any reason whatsoever and receive a refund - unless the goods are faulty or incorrect then the return is at your expense.
However, unless you stated at the time of ordering that "Time is of the essence", then the delay in supplying the goods is unlikely to be taken into account for any other purpose.

Prompted by HJ's news story I had a hunt around for some news on the car show and found this :

The C6 is utterly stunning, the C1 is pretty cute and the Alfa has real presence.
Well worth checking out the site as there are a lot of very good photos on there.

Sous tous les angles, Citroën C6 dispose d?atouts sérieux pour séduire.
I have come across a white van in New Mills once or twice recently with the hood up. I passed very carefully the first time, expecting to find a chap trying to get his engine started. Today I was walking and got a better look. It was a couple of blokes laying tarmac on someone's driveway. The engine was running, and on top of it was laid a 25kg polythene bag of tarmac being heated. The ambient temperature was about 3 or 4 deg.C., and it started snowing heavily shortly afterwards. I trust that fellow backroomers were not involved. Read more
the stuff i am reffereing to the council call de-furred dont know why but it is very small stones in a lighter bitumen and you lay it cold, although it works "better" if warmed up a bit. it's supposed to be used to fill in on top of concrete when installing sign posts etc but local council use it for potholes and it is useless stuff mainly because it doesn't last as it's not designed to be used for the purpose they use it for. it probably is called deferred , but they dont call it that even on their worksheets...cheers...keo.

I saw a car today with number plates having a bunny head and the script, 'Playboy' on the left hand edge, where you would usually find the 12 stars or St.George's flag. Is it legal? Read more

hi, can anyone help?
i have just purchased a 2001 mondeo tddi 2.0l zetec(60,000miles) and am getting really bad fuel consumption, ie, 26 mpg around town, this has been consistant for 4 weeks and i have been driving like a sunday driver (im not a boy racer) the garage have done a diognostic test which did not show any engine faults, but the oil level was 1/2l above max, the mechanic said this could be the problem so he drained it out, also the air flow sensor was unplugged (i noticed this about three weeks ago) so i plugged it back in but there was no noticable difference to the engine running when i did so, have i bought a pig in a sack??? has anyone got any ideas???, Read more

Wipe the seals with a cloth with some thin bleach on it to kill the algae - unlikely to return as well.
Also keeps tiled shower units nice and clean if sprayed on the grouting...:-)
