Ive got a 2003 Mazda 6 136bhp diesel that on occasion sometimes cuts out when the engine is at tick-over. It can happen at random and there is no warning. The CEL (Check engine light) does not illuminate, and therefore I am thinking it could be a fuel problem, namely dragging some air through the system. Ive had a recall done that consists of a capacitor between the A/C compressor and the ECU because Mazda found the compressor was sending "bad" voltage spikes to the ECU, causing the thing to shut down. It still stops with the A/C off!! Any clues chaps? Read more

Has anyone recieved any bad vibes or service from their local dealer when taking their car in for a service (or problem that needs to be looked at) after taking a test drive with them and discussing a price only for you to buy from a internet broker because of a better deal?

I'm a tad paranoid about the dealer not doing a good job if he knew he lost out on a sale after letting me test drive their car!! Read more

if you did have a problem with your car you bought from elsewere they would probably be falling over themselves to fleece- i mean "help" you with it... however, if you had bought it from them they would more than likely hide when they saw you coming... yes, i am speaking from experience!!

Hi guys

I placed a deposit of £500 with my local dealer for the 350z roadster when nissan first accepted orders in october. Just before Christmas my dealer phoned me up for specifications and i said that i wanted the standard 350z with metallic paint. however the dealer just called me and said that the car will be arriving in 2 days time but it will be a 350z GT which costs £2500 more than the standard version. Where do I stand? The problem is that there has been no paperwork except for a receipt of credit card payment of the deposit. The options seem to be:

1) Lose the deposit
2) Try and find someone who will buy the car in full (?as first registered owner) so that the dealer will refund my deposit. But I do not know how I go about doing that?
3) Just swallow it and pay up despite my preference for the standard version.

I can go with option 3 but it is not the car i ordered! what do you guys think? thank you. Read more

Hi, Had a look at your listing on e-Bay. OK, you may make a small profit for allowing the winning bidder to queue jump however I reckon you should get your deposit back from the dealer on the basis that it is not just a spec change, it is a different model, a GT as opposed to standard model, that they are proposing to supply.

I started a jokey thread on how to drive without the rozzers....

I vaguely remember it now. No, I didn't delete it.
Is the moderating on this site getting a bit heavy handed at all.

No, but it was obviously deleted for a reason. I didn't see what was posted later on in that thread, but it was probably for the reason that mfarrow suggests.
I get the feeling someone needs to get out more.

Resorting to personal abuse is not the answer. If you wish to discuss how this site is moderated, then the details of how you should go about it are written in the Announcements section, under the heading 'Welcome'

As a matter of urgency,I need to know how to remove and re-fit the cylinder head on my 1.1 ohc Saxo engined,AX autograss car.

Any information on the timing of the cam, although not essential as it will be done on the rolling road, would be most welcome as well.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, pronto, then post or mail me:kquinn1964@tiscali.co.uk.

Thanks.

Best bet is to buy the haynes manual for the car the engine came from. This will tell you how to time it, and also give torque figures for the headbolts, and whether the headbolts need replacing.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

I used to have a Ford Sierra, 1985, and by the time I got rid in 1993, for another Sierra (no imagination in my youth!) the roof was almost entirely pink. The rest of the car was however, shiny red.

Must have been because the roof was closer to the sun !!.

Sober and below limit but apparently paying zero attention to the
task in hand. However, suspect the sentence is at the harsh
end of the spectrum and that an appeal may be productive.
Loss of career and income also in play.

Sadly, also a chance of loss of home and family. But someone was killed, whose family will also not be best pleased.

Best not to reach conclusions on the sentence without seeing all the facts.

A colleague is from South Korea, and has been resident in this country since September 2002.

He has just purchased a car which will taxed and ready for collection on Monday. The car is a VW Polo for £5,000. The car is being taxed by the garage as they own it and no insurance is required.

Because of a misunderstanding or perhaps innocent ignorance, he has not changed his licence for a GB licence and is experiencing problems getting the car insured. He can change the swap on a straight swap basis, but the chances of doing this for Monday are well, it's the DVLA isn't it!

On a practical level, his options are:

1 - lose the car and £200 deposit - not facourite!
2 - ask the dealer to hang onto for a week or so.
3 - collect car, someone else drives back to Bath on their own insurance and park it on friend's drive or even better a garage (uninsured) until sorted.

Is 3 legal? Basic question, does the car have to be insured or the driver?

There is a further (cultural) pressure: his Korean in laws are visiting soon and are expecting to see a car. I know that we would work around, but that appears not to an option, and it really is a matter of "face".

All contributions welcomed.

by way of update, my man has got his GB licence (straight swop) and has insured the car which the garage held for him, in return for an increase in the deposit to £500. He's goign to pick it up this afternoon.

I'm really annoyed.
5 years ago I put a cherished number plate onto a car and carefully put away the original plates for future use. Unfortunately, now I've put the cherished plate on retention prior to selling the car, the local licensing office have allocated completely different plates fromt the original and I've had to pay £30 for new plates.

So, why is he not keen to do this?
He won't be able to charge you exorbitant 'registration' fees???

I might be wrong here, but I thought the first registration fee was something charged by the DVLA, it certainly isn't something that we just made up so that we could screw extra money out of people.

As for why they aren't keen, because it's hassle and involves going to DVLA offices etc. Too much like a pain the backside in March, I've worked in 3 garages and none of them have been keen on doing it if they can help it.
