Question X-type Foglight
jag_driver

I have cracked my passenger's side front foglight on my December 2001 X-type 2.5 - does anyone know if you can replace the lens or does it need a complete new unit?

These things tend to be one complete sealed unit. My Mondeo's are and i've never seen one that isn't so i'm sure you'll need a complete new unit less the bulb.

I have a 04 Fiesta 1.4 petrol, and i am only getting 36mpg after a motorway run. I think this is very poor, so i have had the car checked by ford who found no problems. What do other people get with this engine?
cheers

Have the same car - it's not reknown for been particularly miserly on petrol although 36mpg sounds a little low, quite a "rev-hungry" engine though so probably easy to use up the juice with a little extra pressure from the right foot

Hi all - my car has done 15,000 miles and has come to a halt in perfect silence under braking until the start of this cold snap. Now, when the brakes are first applied silence is still golden but as the thing is about to stop the dreaded squealing begins, could this be due to salt/grit getting into the works which will sort it's self out or should I get the garage to look at it tomorrow when it goes in for it's two year service? Hi
I also Have a C5 Estate had the same problem with the Noisy Brakes
had the Pads taken out and cleaned up Copper grease applied etc
this stopped the noise for about half a Day then it came back worse than ever seemed the Back Pads were making the Noise. Thease were original Citreon Pads Front and Rear.
Changed the Backs for lucas Pads and the Noise has now gone for good I HOPE.

P.S.
This seems to be a common problem on C5s

Just looking for some info.I filled my Vectra up today with a full tank of Unleaded. The computer showed a range of 280 miles.I know that this value is based on an "average" and refreshes every so often.I had just been driving around town prior to filling up.Surely a full tank should cover more than this?. I thought the Vauxhall "Direct" engine was meant to be more economical.I am sure when I bought the car it was displaying over 350 miles for the range on a full tank. The combined figure for the SRi is 37mpg. Brim it - then work out mileage vs. fuel used (with a pencil!)

I do ;o)

And it's always gives a different result than the fuel puter, which tends to over-read by approx 2mpg.

Hello again

My W reg Octavia TDI's cambelt jumped a tooth last week (broken tensioner) and refused to start.

I have now had the cambelt and tensioner changed (and got change from £200), but something isn't right. The car drives as if the turbo's not there. No go, struggles up hills, struggles up to 60mph etc etc.

I have read the lots and lots of threads on TDI loss of power, but the power loss is coincidental with the cambelt problem.

Would the car have gone into limp home mode, having sensed a problem? If so, how do i get it out of limp home? Do i need to reboot the ECU (like i would know how to do that!)?

Or is it more likely that in changing the cambelt, something has got dislodged or forgotten to be put back on?

Or is it the usual MAF sensor problem and a coincidence?

Thanks in advance Read more

Car went in today. Half hour in the workshop, and they reconnected a hose on the turbo. Boost instantly restored!

so far so good.

I'm thinking of buying a pre-registered new car with only delivery miles. Other than not being the first name on the registration document, are there any disadvantages of buying pre-registered? The first name on the registration document I guess would be the name of the broker or dealer, depending on who I get it from.

You had better check if it is an actual UK car or a UK spec car - it could be an import built to UK spec, which would usually mean a shorter warranty period.

I'm thinking of buying a vauxhall calibra j plate. I was test driving it and the when i put the streering on full lock and move a squeeling noise happens. anyone any ideas? also the abs light stays on as well. the car has been lying for 3 months. could this be the prob? Read more

The noise on full lock may be just fluid being bypassed back to the reservoir through the valves.

My friend has just bought a brand new 1.4 astra joy. Its an 03 plate but only had delivery miles. when the car is idling, it makes a groaning noise or a noise like the exhaust is about to blow. A mechanic checked this over and said it would possibly be the air intake. anybody any ideas? Read more

Have you checked to see if it has the fan.Not certain but think its sensor controlled?
