03 1.4 astra joy engine noise - allan doc
My friend has just bought a brand new 1.4 astra joy. Its an 03 plate but only had delivery miles. when the car is idling, it makes a groaning noise or a noise like the exhaust is about to blow. A mechanic checked this over and said it would possibly be the air intake. anybody any ideas?

It may have a fan fitted near air filter box.This blows air into the exhaust manifold to push exhaust through to cat aiding warm up of cat.So reducing emisions earlier.At least the Corsa 1.4 ecotech has one..

I think Steve may well be right. It's probably the Secondary Air Injection pump. I take it once the engine is warmed up the noise goes?

Have you checked to see if it has the fan.Not certain but think its sensor controlled?
