spin dizzy

Hi
I have a 07/01 Astra 1.7DTI 16V eng no. 00235480 and have noticed a small amount of oil floating in the coolent header tank. Is this anything to worry about like a head gasket blown or just a simple fault. The oil level appears to be unchanged and not at all milky. Thanks for your comments.

Is there a problem with the oil cooler on the 1.7 16V DTI engine that allows oil into the coolent system?
cheers

Dear Mark et al,

I know I've been here before and won't again, promise! but the N.U. advert is appearing far too often. On this machine it is appearing tonight, at least, on every click. Annoying, (very), and I wonder if it harms their chances of client uptake by being, "too in the face." I hope this is going to be a very short thread, but it is driving (pun), me blooming mad.

Regards as ever, Martin. Read more

I fancy a trip to Australia, its a massive country and i've never been so I don't really know where to start. I'm thinking about a three week trip, maybe start off in a city then hire a car and explore. Anyone got any recommendations of the best parts to got to, advice on hiring a car etc. Read more

If you're planning to drive around country do it in an anti-clockwise direction so as to take the inside line. May count in the end.

Why do these cars seem unpopular. I have yet to see one being driven on the roads.
I am thinking of buying one.
My other chioce is the Accord Touring,
both in the diesel versions.
Yes I know the Honda is bigger, but I may not want such a big car Read more

I think the consensus among road testers was that although the V50 is stylish and quite good to drive, it isn't actually very good at being a Volvo estate. Not a lot of room in the back and no easy (like the Audi) or clever (Mazda 6, Honda Accord) way of folding the rear seats down.

So if you only need the space occasionally you may as well go for the A4 Avant, or a BMW Touring (if you don't need much space at all) or if you need more, the V70 is also good to drive with the bigger engines.

Checked with main agent today and they havent a clue
"Its going take time to sort it out at £65@ hour!!!
I spoke to the head electrician who was about 20yrs old ,doesn't know what it could be ,have to plug it in mate and change parts as required ,im told once fitted they cant be removed and the speedo sensor is £125!!!
Any one any ideas ,im like all motor traders ,the dealers just want a pay day ,changing parts for no reason and charging what they like in the process.

Hi,

Wonder if anyone's got any thoughts on this:

Everytime I unlock my C5 estate the rear screen pops open. After I close it, I then can't re-open it. Similarly, when driving, if I come to a stop and open the driver/passenger door the rear screen pops open.

Becoming a tad annoying!

Saw the post re. C5 doors - as an aside, I have had the same issue with both rear doors.

Thanks in advance.

C5 estate rear screens have a design fault. Apparently, the glass gate switch is earthed through the screen heater wires. When this goes wrong normally the glass gate can't be opened at all (this has just happened to mine for the second time, requiring a second new screen!). Your problem may be a variation on the theme.

Further to Growlers post in the most ridiculous car thread, here's a thread for grumpy old men of the backroom to moan about anything they like.. (motoring related)

I haven't seen this prog. Is it available on DVD? We get BBC World and BBC Prime here but I haven't seen it. Herself would love it, (unusually given the culture gap) she's a pushover for English humour.

Got the weekend coming up and the Manila Rugby 10's. Big event, players from all over Asia. No parking as usual, all those overpaid empty suits Brit expatriates working for the big banks with their SUV's and shrill wives and ghastly kids. One Harley in the paint shop, guy quotes me 6000 pesos then rings up and says now 8000 I tell him what to do with that he says he's already started work and the airbrush guy has put up his rates. Why is nothing anybody's fault anymore? I've got to ride that beastly Kawasaki meantime and get laughed at by my mates. But I really want that pic of the naked woman getting out of a coffin full of roses on my tank.....Growlette's allowance may take a beating this month, now I'm going to get flak from her....

Local mayor has issued an ordinance making full-face helmets illegal in my city unless they're registered with the city hall (too many crims use 'em). Now I've got to spend half a day getting that done and I know where the money goes and it's not to the city.

Oh well, the weather's warm, the beer is cold and the women are beautiful.....

Quick question for people. I recently had an accident in the snow, in which no one else was involved. Now my insurance company have cancelled my policy (because the car was a total loss). I have 5 years protected NCB. Is this protected bonus usuable with another company? (I know I have to tell them of the claim), so can I put 5 yrs no claims when asked?

Thanks in advance Read more

I've been focusing on a BMW/Audi as a replacement for my beloved ZT. However, I had a quick look at a mondeo ST Tdci 155 the other day. Nice looking car with lots of kit. I've seen them for around £15500. However, having been stung once with a mondeo (admittedly a previous shape 1.8 zetec) I'm reluctant to give it serious consideration. What Cars depreciation index has it being worth £9484 after three years. Is that being optimistic? Read more

Still doesn't solve my problem, two year old BMW or nearly
new Mondeo!!

If you can get a good two year old reasonable mileage 330d (not 320d) for your budget it would be worth concidering, otherwise a nearly new (or new via broker) Mondeo is probably a better bet than a two year old 30k to 40k 320d.
