Question Focus 115 TDCi
115TDCi

Hi there wondered if anyone had any ideas why my focus keeps playing up.

The symptoms are as follows:

The car is proving to be extremely difficult to start whether cold starting or warm starting.

When cruising at 60 or 70 mph there is a hesitation and the revs drop down slightly then back up again.

I have experienced a large amount of smoke/soot from the exhaust when accelerating; it has not produced this amount smoke in the last 2 years of ownership.

My car is still under ford warranty and has been to the main dealer twice.

The first time it was there (for 4 weeks!) they found the injectors has lost their program and so cleaned them and reprogrammed them.

I took there car back on the basis that they could replicate the faults anymore, if I experienced them I should take it back in.

A week passed and you guessed it all the above symptoms started again, it has been back with them for nearly a week and they phoned me today stating they couldn't replicate the faults for long enough to get a fault code on the ECU.

They stated that Ford were not particularly helpful this time round, I have taken the car back and although I haven't experienced the starting problem, it has been smoking heavily again!

I will wait for the starting problem before taking it back as they say they can?t replicate the hesitancy and smoking issue.

Does anyone here have experience of these problems with the focus and the 115 1.8 TDCi engine??

By the way the car has only done 35,500 miles is main dealer serviced and I change the oil and filter with approved Ford items in between the 12500 mile service intervals just as I feel the that the oil is just too dirty at 6000 miles.

The car is a September 2002 built model.

Any TSB's etc would be appreciated.

Many thanks for your time.

Hi,

Parkers quotes £1600-£1750 for a average mileage Nissan Primera 2.0GT SE on a R plate. The model I am interested in is a 'Mystic' which was a limited run with Chromaflair paint. How much more should I pay for this special edition? Read more

The Gingerous One

Yes, I agree with your comment about Parkers' prices for them.

However, there are some seriously misguided people around, like I saw one person recently-ish in AT asking £4k for his R reg GT, the Ltd. Edition one with the purple/green flip paint (is that a 'Mystic') ??

That's way too much. Maybe £2500 which a private buyer might give him.

M reg Primera GT, 161,000 miles & 3 crashes (and it shows)
still goes well though

My Tino with under 30k on the clock has a very small misfire when cold on start up. Has just been to the local Nissan agent and they state thay have heard the misfire but that it is not the glow plugs at fault and they do not know at this stage what the problem is.

Also there is a rattle from the rear box when cold and have been advised quote " all Tino's rattle like that".

May be Nissan should put this in their advertising blurb. Your vehicle is supplied with rattle when cold!!

Any ideas?

Good afternoon All
I have been asked to review our ambulance contract and I need to know what I should specify. I know there a a couple of doc's and several other emergency services people, this plus the forums general knowledge I hope will put me on the right track.
First - Vehicle - will be a land cruiser with back seats out and a stretcher on skids installed.
Ambulance will be on rough track for approx 40 miles then 20 mls tarmac journey time approx 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. Injury severity - I guess what you would get in a car accident.
Please no state of the art stuff as training and being able to actually buy and import equipment is quite limited. Oxygen yes but how much? Basically we will stabilize patient at location with rig doc the dispatch in ambulance.
Thanks for any help / suggestions. If you feel you don't wish to publish in forum please can you send me an e mail via mods.

Jim,

I should add, that if you are likely to be held legally responsible for the specification of this equipment and it sounds like you might, you should really have the list drawn up by a qualified quack. Preferably one with experience of the injuries typical or unique in your industry.
I once worked at a Uranium mine with it's own Sulphuric Acid plant. The medical station there *had* to be equipped for chemical burns and respiratory damage.

You will also need to consider how and who is responsible for ensuring that everything is checked, stored and maintained properly. It's no good having a fully equipped ambulance full of supplies that have become useless because they've been sat in temps of 120deg. for the last 6 months.

When I take the Megane to France for Easter I assume I will need to put on some of those black headlight deflectors. But I can't see where they should go, there's no indication on the headlight and no clues in the owner manual either.
Can anyone help? Read more

Are dealers, main dealers especially, still knocking a huge chunk of part-ex value on UK spec. foreign imports?
Does the UK conformity cert. make any difference?
Or is there still the prejudice and sucking of teeth?
If so, what percentage are they knocking off the value?

I thought that you might be getting your figures from others for sale. While I am not disputing that you were offered less for your car compared to a UK supplied, I really don't think that the difference would be as much as £2500 between. Only way to know would be to offer a similar UK supplied car and see what the trade in value was. Not saying you will find any consolation in that

Hi

I've got a volvo S80 which is FWD. Recently there has been a low howling sound coming from the front right wheel( sounds a bit like the wind whistling past except an octave lower) which
gets loud the faster the car goes. Does anyone know what could
possibly be causing this? Bearings, joints etc?

Thanks for any info.

Press release from Vauxhall issued today which should keep Dynamic Dave happy. Sit back and await knockers.

"Buyers made the Astra Britain's best selling car in February - despite the launch of some very high profile rivals. Official figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that 4703 Astras found new homes last month, giving it six per cent of the total market.

Astra overtakes newly-launched rival to become UK's top seller for February - Vauxhall takes overall number one manufacturer spot in car sales charts - Corsa and Zafira dominate their sectors

Buyers made the Astra Britain's best selling car in February - despite the launch of some very high profile rivals. Official figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that 4703 Astras found new homes last month, giving it six per cent of the total market.

Strong sales of the Astra added to Vauxhall's other February successes, giving it the overall number one manufacturer spot with 11,817 car sales. Corsa continued to dominate the supermini sector and came in at number three in the charts, while the Zafira was the only MPV to appear in the top 10 - despite a new model being just around the corner.

The Astra's impressive performance is expected to become even stronger over the next few months, when the stylish Sport Hatch models finally reach eager buyers. Vauxhall is also working hard to secure extra production of the sportier SRi and SXi models, which have been in especially high demand. Almost a fifth of all Astras registered last month were these sporty variants, which bodes well for the launch of the storming 240bhp VXR, due to go on sale in September.

Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall's Executive Director for UK & Ireland said: "It's particularly gratifying to 'do the double' with both the car and manufacturer top sales spots in a month when our main rivals are launching new products. It proves that customers really appreciate the stylish looks and driving dynamics which the Astra - and all Vauxhalls - provide. The arrival of the Sport Hatch, plus extra-value models such as the Breeze special editions, mean that we intend to push the pedal further over the next few months."
