Question Rust Prevention
chronyx

Hi guys,

When I get my next car, I'm looking to do some rust protection so it will last me as long as possible.

In particular I'd like the to do the sills, underside and wheels arches.

In fact ideally I would rust proof the whole car!

So, I was wondering if you guys could help?

I'm willing to do it myself (I did the back end of my current car over the summer with Hammerite) but I don't know if I did it right - I wirebrushed it and just Hammerite undersealed it.

I'm really not sure how to go about doing the sills, so any advice would be welcome.

Alternarively, if anyone knows of anywhere in Surrey that does quality rust proofing that's not too expensive then please let me know! Read more

That's what they sell - rust proofing products and paints. I mean't ideas to use these various products to rustproof your car.

Don't fancy paying 2 million for a 20000 service on my 3 year old Golf.
I can't find a good garage listed here or anywhere; can anyone help with a recommendation for a good independent in Reading or failing that W4 area ?
Cheers in advance ! Read more

>>Marlow Cars = Windrush VW ?
No, they are a local independent; they advertise their car sales as Marlow Cars or Marlow Performance Cars but they are also known as Harpers Motors. Absolutely nothing to do with Windrush at all (Maidenhead or Slough). No chrome and glass showrooms and they never once offered me a coffee but they always did excellent work on my Passat and charged fairly.

Not so much a technical question but i have run out of ideas.
The passenger door on our Peugeot 306 is letting in water, normally you after a bit of rain you can see that the carpet is wet, today my wife called in to work to show me that there was at least an inch of water sloshing about in the passenger side footwell. I have changed the seal so far, but it has not made any difference at all, seems to be getting worse.

Any advise greatly accepted as it is really anoying now.

Cheers
Mark

I have a 91 driver (115k) and it's started to stall after a couple minutes of having started from cold.

The problem seems not to be the choke because I've had it adjusted twice and on the second occasion it didn't need any more adjustment.

Someone has suggested it could be the distributor.

Any ideas?

Today Irelnd has switched from imperial speed limits (MPH) to metric (KPH)- Signs have been changed, Speed limits have come down as a result. Most Irish cars have cars with MPH speedos.

The Garda has stated there will be no amnesty for speeders. Nice! Read more

No, I thought *white* vans could carry on as normal and it wouldn't make much difference.

Oh the irony. I post how nice my seats are and then rip them. I've ripped a centimetre line into one of the back seats. The cut is pretty clean but given the colour, stands out a little.

Someone please tell me that there's a company that can fix it because the interior is otherwise spotless.

Many thanks,

Yours Stupidly,

hi, not surehow common this problem is but the water jets on the front windscreen have stopped working, normally you hear the motor working but this time nothing happens, even when the front water tank is empty the motor still works but now nothing happens

i hope this makes sense as its starting to become a problem with driving as the windscreen is getting dirty very quickly and i have to keep either stopping or putting my hand out the window and spraying the windscreen with water fom a bottle

any tips would be great as the manual for the car i cant find anything

the car is reg j 1992 if that helps

My car was involved in a accident yesterday morning, its just been recovered and damaged to be assessed. I spoke to the garage about it today, its N reg and they said it might not be worth repairing and so writing it off. To me it is worth repairing so i might see if its possibly somewhere else, outside of insurers. My question is, if the car is fully agreed to be written off, can i get the petrol back i put in? I filled up (£35) at the weekend, be a shame lose that on top of everything else. Its still registering a full tank. I am sooooo annoyed at myself.

Can i legallly recover this fuel without it costing more than the amount i spent? Read more

I had my Corsa in the Vauxhall Dealer garage over the weekend whilst some warranty work was carried out. The day after I picked it up I checked the mileage (I forgot at the time of collecting it) and it had done over 200 miles whilst in the garage!!! Obviously used by a member of staff. I have no proof of this though. Any advice would be appreciated. Read more

Some years ago we were visited by the boys-in-blue who wanted us to account for our movements at a certain time on a certain day when our car had been seen 'acting suspiciously' in a town twenty miles away......we were able to prove that it was in for a service at the time. Unfortunately we had not made a note of the mileage when leaving the car at the garage so could not claim that there too many extra miles on the clock when we got it back!!
