Question Polo AEF Diesel
Scampy

Can anyone advise me where the fuel cut off valve is on this model? Is it below the plastic cover, with 3 wires protruding (imobiliser I think), on the injection pump throttle control?

Also where do I find the 50A glow plug fuse?

Thanks Read more

Its winter, its cold and I have room in my garage to park my car. However I cant be bothered to get out and open the doors all the time so I want an electric garage opener.

I have seen one on Screwfix they have a chamberlain motorlift electric door opener for £150 quid. Its the ML850.

Just been in bed all week with flu and my housmate has returned from a trip and pointed out the two front tires of my van are flat. The dust caps are on so I suspect its just a neighbour angry that its been in front of their house for so long. But if the tires were slashed would it be obvious? I can't see any signs of a cut but am worried as I'm a student and I only just got the thing and I really can't afford two new tires!! Read more

Err, you mean a civilian in a call centre might ring
you back after a few days with a crime number for
your insurance?

I accept your cynisism, however if we go all lethargic and fail to report crimes when they happen, who can joe public complain to when police numbers etc are cut?

Also, having reported it as a crime can underline the seriousness of it to a number of people. The person who did this may not sleep easier at night knowing that his actions have been reported as a crime, as Ramos is going to be knocking on his door asking whether he may have seen anything suspicious with the parting statement "Well thanks anyway - I've reported it to the police - goobye"

He may well have no trouble whatsoever from said neigbour after that little incident.

Of course I could be wrong.

Hello
Just wondering if anyone out there knows what is causing all the sidelights to flicker continously on my 98 1.8petrol Mondeo (engine/ignition on or off). Also the offside headlight electric beam adjustment has failed, is the motor easy to replace? actually i think it's time i bought a Haynes manual, the car has been faultless from new till now so never needed one!!
Thanks in advance for any help and advice Read more

Paul,

The flicker is a dodgy connection in one or both headlights. Replace both of the side light bulbs, they are only a £1 for the two of them & the problem will go away for about six months & then gradually return. Don't know why it returns but does not matter for a £1.

Re the motor, try getting it to run with the headlight out, may be another connector fault.

Hi All,

I am the owner of a 306 HDI Y Reg and recently the digital mileage gauge went dark on me. That is to say that normally when you turn the ignition on the display iluminates itself, this has stopped working. If I look really hard the figures are still there and the milometer seems to be working correctly. Does anyone know a solution to repairing this. Is it a fuse, or could it be as simple as a bulb that requires replacing. I am reluctant to start working on the milometer as it contains the cars mileage.

I've never owned a car with leather seats and would welcome opinions on whether they are worth having or not. I'm never that impressed if I'm a passenger in a car with them but wonder if you actually get used to them or do they always feel cold and allow you to slide about when cornering etc. I appreciate it will depend a lot on the quality of the leather seats and the design of them.

Hi

this is my first visit to the backroom. Can anyone tell me how to replace the lights that illuminate the speedo, rev counter, temp and fuel gauges on a fiesta 1.25? Any help welcome Read more

misterbarbel

medman, You need to remove the instrument panel to do this. The bulbs can then be replaced just like any other bulbs. It's not a particularly difficult job but there are several steps. The job is detailed in the Haynes manual for this car and also on the Ford TIS CD.

Hi

Took our car into the main dealer to have it looked over for a fault - pulling to the left, and I felt a clonking noise from the rear passenger or front passenger side.

Got the car back - driven 25 miles, and fault yet to be fixed, i.e 4 wheel tracking.

I felt the mileage was very high - took my car and as I was drving out as the dealer was closing, noted the trip meter had an additonal 25 mls clocked and radio was on quite high.

Any views, experiences and action I should take - I have no evidence re the mileage when I left the car at the main dealer, who is a franchised dealer.

Thanks in advance

Perk of the job for dealer staff to use customer cars. Used to happen all the time (and I guess still does nowadays). They would normally choose something with a bit of performance.

Stuff you always wanted to know but were to afraid to ask!

If i left my car idling on a full tank, how long before it runs out?

If i ran my engine at maximum rev's, how long before it went bang?

if i went flat out in first gear, how long before gearbox goes
to pieces?

I don't know, but 'Smiles better on a Mersey Bus,' as the advertising campaign used to go.

The reverse light (singular) on my Legacy is on the nearside, high, and aimed horizontal or slightly above. I have difficulty seeing.
My path is steep and narrow, with a 200mm high block wall. Last weekend I pushed off four of the blocks. With my last Legacy I had no trouble seeing to reverse up the path (two lights, one each side.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket set that I could instal? I have the feeling that the dealer won't acknowledge that there is a problem. I've been a fool all my life, but I still hate to be treated like one. Read more

Thank you Henry k and Marlot.
There seems to be everything that we used to be able to buy in the 70s, but can't find now.
Now, to get into the dealer and hear the excuses and denials. "Its you, sir, just you! Nobody else finds a problem."
