Hi guys,

When I get my next car, I'm looking to do some rust protection so it will last me as long as possible.

In particular I'd like the to do the sills, underside and wheels arches.

In fact ideally I would rust proof the whole car!

So, I was wondering if you guys could help?

I'm willing to do it myself (I did the back end of my current car over the summer with Hammerite) but I don't know if I did it right - I wirebrushed it and just Hammerite undersealed it.

I'm really not sure how to go about doing the sills, so any advice would be welcome.

Alternarively, if anyone knows of anywhere in Surrey that does quality rust proofing that's not too expensive then please let me know!

It depends what car it is? Many early-90's onward peugeots don't rust anyway.

Wire brushed are good for surface rust but not anything else. If there's no rust on the car at present, just rinse the dirt off with water so it's nice and clean, then cover with underseal when it's dry. If you use a wire-brush on good paintwork it won't do it any good.

I'm planning to clean up the rear arches in the summer. I'm planning to clean the rust off with a 'rust remover' tool from that I've seen in Wilkos: looks like a hard black sponge on a rotating disk, but I haven't tried it yet. Then fill holes, prime, paint, and underseal.

OK if you like the work, but I would use something like Loctite Rust Remedy and then paint over it.

That's what they sell - rust proofing products and paints. I mean't ideas to use these various products to rustproof your car.
