What happened to it?

You say something just a little controversial, to get a debate going, and hey presto ....... snip!

Instead we have exciting topics such as seat coverings on Ford Focuses, or is it Foci?

In the last few weeks I've enjoyed the electronic frippery that is part of my Citroen C8 but today I discovered an unexpected downside to the automatic headlamps. This afternoon I was passing through a village which is blessed with speed humps. A few yards past the hump is a turning on the left where a white Vectra was apparently waiting for me to pass by. As I bounced up the hump I was surprised to see the side of the Vectra illuminated as the C8's headlamps chose that inopportune moment to switch on. The Vectra's evidently driver took it to mean that he was being flashed out of the turning and launched his car in front of mine. Fortunately I had just enough room to slow and miss him.

Anyone else had a near miss attributable to their car's technology?

I have quite a clever system which turns the lights on automatically when I can't see the speedo clearly any more. I call it the Beautifully Refined Anti-computer Interconnection of Nerves (BRAIN). It even turns the wipers on for me when I can't see out the windscreen! :-P

Joking aside, the Mk4 Escort (as I've noticed!) has it's dip beam switch connection on the indicator stalk, so when the stick it pushed up or down a contact moves along a copper track. Great except when it starts wearing and pitting, so causing a flashing of headlights (when on) as I indicate!

According to the Sun newspaper today some fellow named Rooney is being ripped off by the insurance companies.
He has seven cars:
BMW 645i insurance £16000 p.a.
BMW X5, £16000 p.a.
Merc. SLK £16000 p.a.
Cadillac Escalade £18000 p.a.
Audi TT £12000 p.a.
Chrysler V8 £16000 p.a.
Streetka Only £7000 p.a.

Bit steep, hey!!! Presumably, he can only drive one at a time. Read more

Anyone wanting the best deals available on car insurance should use these two sites:

Between them they cover almost all online providers and provide a list of quotes quickly and easily. Certainly worthwhile!

Hi all.
My 4 year old Brava was pranged the other week & I've since had it repaired at a body shop which the insurance company told me to use.
The front bumber, wing & headlight were replaced & the paint finish is excellent.
Only problem is the top of the wing is a darker shade (metallic green verdi) then the bonnet.
Obviously the bonnet has faded slightly from the sun over time & I suppose if the sprayer had matched the paint to the bonnet then the wing would be lighter then the door & been a mismatch there.
Is it unreasonable to expect the sprayer to have got a good match on all parts. Perhaps by using a lighter shade towards the top of the wing to better match the faded bonnet, or am I expecting to much.
Thanks Dave G. Read more

The repair company should have sprayed the bonnet too and most of the front door if the wing was replaced.
As the insurance were paying for the job, it looks like they have tried to cut corners and make a quick £££ as they would have quoted to blend in the paintwork on the bonnet and front door.
Phone up your insurers and tell them that they have cut corners.

Hugo is being more tolerant than I.

Your threads appear to be needlessly silly and posted only to start an argument.

You may well be writing in the wrong internet forum and may be comfortable in one of the more reactionary ones.

The police have now started using silver colored (Renault Scenics?) according
to one recent French motoring magazine for mobile traps.
PS the weather here is worse than London, colder and wetter
today.

Fortunately this year we are trudging down in the L200 so speeds in excess of the limit will be few and far between. Plus the chap driving the other car was nabbed by les flics last year whilst, er, testing an Audi TT so he wants to take it easy.

Thanks for the tip-offs nevertheless.

Could someone clarify the policy on posts that are critical of specific companies? I've seen posts edited in the past to remove the company names, yet recently (e.g. the AA thread) this hasn't happened.

If anyone can suggest a good place to buy the above I'd be grateful. The cheapest price I've found is c. £9400 (inc met paint) at Micronet Showroom. If you think I can do better by price / vendor, I'd be glad to know.

Many thanks indeed.
