There are firms in the UK, such as www.gsfcarparts.com/ which offer genuine spare parts for much, much less than at franchised dealerships.

Just wondered other backroomers opinion on this. Were cars such as the mark 2 Cavalier, Golf, Sierra etc, more reliable than their modern day Vectra etc equivalents? Seems that there is too much electronic trickery on cars now, with various sensors packing in frequently, such as vw O2 sensors. Read more
If they were British my experience everything needed repair or replacement at sickeningly early intervals. The body rot was so rapid I could not keep up with repairs.
As for reliable - well if you mean breakdowns- not bad at all.
Points/ignition usually gave some warning of impending doom.
Modern cars are much less troublesome until they go wrong in an incoherent and non DIY way.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.
A friend of mine was quoted £240 to fit new discs and pads on his 2000 Disco.Thinking this a little pricey I offered to do it for him and ordered Quinton Hazel discs and Mintex pads(£97.88).In the meantime he has been warned against doing the job himself as it is not as straightforward as other vehicles.
Has anyone done this job and found it problematic?I am a part time mechanic but do not have any Landrover experience.Any info appreciated. Read more
Thanks for that Defender,as this is a 2000 model I think it will fall into the latter catergory.
Hello HJ members
Has anyone seen the new FF in the flesh??
My family and I may visit today a local showroom - i phoned and was adsvised to make an appointment - my feeling is that it is under cover in the showroom. They have the Ghia version.
Does the car have the same TDCi engines and CVT as the FF-C Max?
The CVT in the c-max has not been built for months and honest dealers are not accepting orders.
Will the new Focus have the same problems as the c-max?
Not sure if we will have time to visit today - but certainly visit by next week - will post my findings here.
I've noted that the 1:6 new Focus is on sale at a 2k discount already.

Very true. It's incredibly difficult saying no when all your mates are drinking all the time. Incredibly difficult - but as you say - clear head when driving.

Heart says C55 estate, then when it looks at bank statement it says 2.2 TDCi, head (and wife!) says Grand Scenic.
With regard to the Mondeo when I ordered my current Ghia X in '02 I thought the Zetec S was the best looking variant, I had one for 48 hours and it rode well on it's 18" wheels, however it was not available with some of the features I wanted so I went for the Ghia X.
Now, post face lift, the Zetec S is still the best looking, (more subtle than the ST's) and is available with cruise, trip, sunroof etc however it is not avaiable with the 2.2 TDCi 155 engine!
An optioned up Zetec S 2.2 TDCi 155 could be the the ideal sub 20k mix of driving pleasure, family carrying, economy and subtle sporty looks if only it were available!

If you are a company car driver then , yes the Titanium X is not worth an extra £70 odd a month.
Won't the "Wayback" machine have a copy? www.archive.org/
Has anyone used one of these?

The IAM also refer to it.
The only source I have found for them to date is

Are they available anywhere else? Read more
Just to dampen the fire a little.
I have replaced loads (probably hundereds) of windscreens with these "secure" tax disc holders, and have not had trouble removing a single one.

My 130bhp pdi Passat seems to have developed pronounced turbo lag when the engine is cold. So much so that moving off quickly from a junction has become quite fraught these cold mornings; I can't remember noticing it in previous winters. The car's fine after about 1 mile. Needless to say it's now out of warranty. I'd be grateful for any comments. Read more
Just had an oil change. I'd welcome any more info on the EGR system. Thanks
Anyone know the exact law regarding cabbies and seat belts?
My driver tonight wasn't wearing one and says he never does.. Read more
Indeed, a desperate, irritating and blatantly ill-disguised attempt at advertising.
If the firm are that short of customers it deserves to go under.

the uk economy is bleeding at the rate of £40 billion a year, i.e. about £110 million a day. which sector contributes the most/least should be availbale from the stats.
aprilia - re. your reference to germany in the post below. have you considered that perhaps that explains why the german economy is doing so badly compared to the uk.
