A bit more detail in the Daily Wail account of the incident. I was taken by the statement that her family had been troubled for some time by various incidents and personallly thought the whole affair did not ring true as the proverbial bell. HJ's facts re Toureg add to my suspicion that there may be more to this than meets the eye.
The Insurers no doubt will clarify it eventually. Read more
Does anyone know how to bypass the auto unlock on the central locking system on a Peugeot 206.
It intermittently keeps unlocking when trying to lock the car even when all the doors are shut. I see this used to be an issue on 306's and you could bypass the unlock by shorting 2 wires on the conrol unit together. Can you do the same on a 206 as it is getting annoying.

Am having difficulty with gear change on our 306 diesel.
I think the clutch may not be properly adjusted, as it bites extremely early (a new clutch had been fitted just before we got the car last month), the pedal is hardly lifted from the floor when the clutch engages.
Haynes manual says the clutch cable is self adjusting, but doesn't say how that works. If so how does it self adjust itself back when a new clutch is installed?
Any help would be appreciated.

A friend arrived up late last night in her 54-reg Toyota Avensis hatchback. Nice car, but she wasn't pleased about the broken rear windscreen.
For various reasons (NCB etc), she didn't want to claim on insurance. So we called out a well-known windscreen company, who are repairing it as we speak -- at a cost of £620, which was reduced from £700 because she's an RAC member.
This seems horrendously expensive for less than 1sq metre of glass, with a few heating filaments in it. Is that the going rate, or has she been ripped off? Read more
It is usual practice to notify insurers prior to getting screens replaced, not afterwards, as most insurance companies have nominated windscreen replacement companies and I would suspect that they get discounts for doing so. They might not be too happy if they think that your friend has paid over the odds for the replacement screen.
Bought a Mondeo Zetec on a 51 plate some days ago. (from an auction). Yesterday night the alarm started going off. It would reset and would go off again until you unlocked the car and locked it again. Then it would stay quiet for some time and it would start all over again. ( Lost a good deal of sleep yesterday night)
This morning the same thing happened. There was a light rain in the night and this morning also. Could this be the culprit? ( heard that it sometimes happens in the Golf)
This is driving me nuts ( not to mention the neighbours!)
Any solution/advice would be welcome

Long shot, but worth a try
My 96 Fiesta suffered from intermittent triggering of the alarm at about 4th birthday, and I found the cause to be the alarm contact switch on the front bonnet shut panel. VERY cheap poor quality switch exposed to the elements. Corroded contacts = high resistance when closed. Just disconnect switch and then short out contacts as a permanent fix.
Probably worth looking at all the other alarm switches and tempararily short circuiting.

My father in law wants a Rover 45 1.4/1.6. Looking to spend about 5k. Does anyone know what these cars are making at auction as i may buy one from there as opposed to private/dealer purchase. Cant be much interest in them nowadays. Read more
If he must spend that much money on such a car then point him in the direction of the Honda Civic.
Same car, Honda engine and back-up, better residual values.
Could anybody in the B.R. advise of the price of extended warrany on their M. Benz & Audis, or for comparison, any other manufacturer?? I ask because BMW have recently increased their prices on the 3 series by over 40% from £510 to £720 per annum. On the 5 Series the price increase is nearly 60% from £620 to £970 per annum, which seems excessive to say the least.!! Read more
Are you sure that they replaced the screen?
Yep, 100% sure. Saw it coming out.

I bought a Peugeot 306 LX HDI Estate (registered in April 2000) in March 2003 and, after a few months, it developed a loud
whistle that is coming from the fuel filter.
The whistling only starts several seconds after starting the engine. It sometimes stops whistling, but is mostly continuous.
I have recently replaced both the fuel filter housing and fuel filter, but the whistling still occurs with the replacement items.
I thought it may be caused by air in the filter housing, but I cannot find a way of bleeding it. I cannot find any "priming bulb" or bleed screws on my model. Therefore, I presume it is self priming and self bleeding.
(The only Haynes manual I could find for the Peugeot 306 only goes up to 1999 models, and mine is a 2000 model, which does not appear to be covered)
Does anyone know:
a) what is causing the whistle ?
b) is it necessary to bleed the fuel system on this model ?
b) how to bleed the fuel system on this model ?
Thanks Read more
Kev,
You do not have to bleed the fuel system on the HDI engines.Fuel is supplied to the filter by a low pressure in tank pump(about 3 bar) and the system is entirely self bleeding.Failure of the in tank pump is extremely common and your whistling noise at the filter may be an indication that your tank pump is failing.

A work colleague has just had his Mitsubishi Outlander serviced and asked for my comments on the service sheet and invoice. What would you have said?
First Service, 9000miles, car 8 months old, Petrol/Gas fuels.
1, Service sheet is not ticked off in section for oil and filter change.
2. Total bill, £240.00. This includes, Air refresher assembly, £28.00, Castrol Oil £30.00, Labour £100.00, Petrol Treatment £10.00, Engine Flush £10.00, Brake de-dust £3.00, Superlube £4.00, Oil filter and drain plug gasket £7.00. Service kit and environment £7.00.
3. Tyre report states that spare is new. There is no spare, gas tank fills this space.
4. Interior bulb replaced, 10w on invoice, handbook says should be 8w.
5. Bill also includes £2.00 for screenwash, but it was full when he took the car in.
6. The service check list is dated 1996 to August 2001. The Outlander was not introduced until January this year.
I would be interested in your comments.
P.S. I have rounded all the items on the invoice to the nearest pound. Read more
Surprised they used engine flush on a new engine too!

I found this on the Mondeo "enthusiast" site. What really puzzles me is why it is kept secret. Anybody out there any clues as to why Ford do not publicise this facility. Mrs. Etchells is well chuffed as she feels much safer now.
