I am lookingto buy a new car and have no PX hindering me, I have been tempted by the spec on the new nissan including Sat Nav, Colour rear park camera, climate, etc.

Amboy,

have you purchased yet?

As a result of reading your ( & other) comments over the last few weeks I had a drive of the 2005 model 2.2 Dci SE today and I went with the intenion of hating it as its so pug ugly so that I could discount it but I think it's a brilliant package and unbeatable if I can get it down to circa £12K.

Have you (or anyone else) found a good deal as a trahet price at least?

Anyone used one of these companies that will remove/spray chips and scratches by just touching up the affected area?

I've got a long but shallow scrach on my passenger door (pesky kids!), and I'm thinking of using a company called Chips Away. They gurantee exact colour match, and can remove it without the need to spray the whole door.

I've got metallic paint too, so presumably this makes it more difficult?

Should I give it a whirl? Read more

I have used my local guy and he did a very good job on mine. Fot small dents and scratches to bumpers I think they are OK.

That said , I had a look at my neighbours car which the same guy repaired not long before mine and noticed rust appearing in an area of wheel arch that he was supposed to have fixed.

I also have concerns about them spraying your car on the drive or outside - on a wet day they have a tent to cover the car but a windy day sees spray paint going all over the place.

I would contact your local guy and ask to see some previous cars that he has repaired.

My Peugeot 405 has the irratic idling problem, so when you are sitting in traffic it stalls/ idles roughly. There is also a strong smell of petrol in the mornings but a mechanic can find no problems.

Any suggestions? Read more

Hello all.

Could you please give me information on how to fix the dropped drivers side door on my brothers scirocco. It?s dropped and can let in water!

A ?how to? or a few pointers or even a good VW/scirocco site would be cool. Is it just a case of loosening the hinge bolts and realigning? What gap should be around the door?

Any help you could give would be greatly received.

Many thanks

I think the doors sag because of their weight. The 'A' post actually deforms a bit over time.

Firstly, see if their is any play in the hinges by opening the door and 'lifting' it. Any play will be felt. It there is play then replace the pins (cheap).
Other than that you can adjust using the bolts, plus adding packing, if necessary.

Forum PCP buying

I buy privately and am a bit green at my friends and neighbours shining new company cars.

I was thinking about a PCP contract to buy say a Honda Accord diesel.

I don't really care about not owning the car.

Has anyone bought on a PCP and regretted it? Are the OK? Read more

This may by now be a little bit out of date and it's possibly not done to quote your own posts but www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=19...9 is a fairly thorough explanation of how PCPs work and how they make money for the dealer quite nicely, thank you.

There is a website address in one of the threads which gives an alternative "normal" phone number to the 0845 and 0870 numbers.
I can't locate it at the moment, can anyone put it up again. Read more

At a time when telephone companies are promoting tariffs with all
inclusive calls, they are also promoting the use of NGNs(Non Geographic
Numbers)which are not included in the inclusive tariff.

This practice really is bordering on the outrageous.

Feel I got my own back today - had to call O2 and used the 0800 number on the aforementioned website rather than the 0870 number. I got through after 20 mins only to be told I had to be transferred to another dept which had a 30 min wait. The operator was quite surprised I agreed. I just put the phone on hands-free and carried on working 'till they answered.

I'm in the market for a new family sized car. I have a maximum of 14k to play with including roughly 2.5k for my trade in. I'm not too concerned over badges, my main criteria are size (4 doors +) and comfort. Also I only do about 12k miles per year so I don't think diesel is required.

Does anyone know any cracking deals anywhere that might suit me? Read more

And I suppose if you fancy a lot of change from your 14K, and you find the Citroen Berlingo comfortable (it is certainly spacious), that might be an option.

I have a V reg, 1.1 saxo and have a problem with the electrics, the heater circulation fans are working only intermittently and it seems that the rear windscreen de-mister is now doing the same. The de-mister button is only partially illuminated.

I am not sure of what the problem could be, two possible ideas have been

a, Ignition switch, if this is the case allegedly it would need to either be relayed or replaced and then re-programmed.

b, or as the "RAC" put it a bad earth

Has anyone else encoutered a similar problem and does anyone have any indication of the costs that I should expect to incur if either of the above do prove to be the problem.

I ust have to get one now so a little advice appreciated. I understand that Road Angel have a combined GPS and Laser Detector. Cleary this is the best of both worlds. However there is a laser detector called Cheetah that fits on the interior mirror at only £200. Of course this could be useful if they are banned in the near future.

Any one used either of these or other models ?

Cheers

Diffusers are illegal and if you are found using one, you will be prosecuted quite severely - I think the charge is perverting the course of justice - essentially, you are preventing an officer of the law from conducting his duties. ( I actually sound like I know what I'm on about there - I don't)

The only way a laser detector of any kind would be any use to you was if a van targeted a car in front of you and it picked up a stray beam. If you don't see the van, and it targets you, it gets a reading in 0.3 seconds so you are pretty much...well - defenceless.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was going to get one myself but given it would only *possibly* be of use, I decided against it.

One last thing - if you got a GPS one that picks up accident blackspots, then I suppose if the vans frequented these blackspots then you would be warned - but it's more passive than an actual detector of some sort - and you're relying on the vans actually enforcing the speed in blackspots.

I hope this helps.

In my opinion cars are excellent at resisting the effects of salt laden northern winters. (Especially when you remember Rootes rot-boxes rusting through in 18 months )

But-are all cars the same these days ?
Are cars made for ,say Spain, or Greece just as winter proof as cars made for the UK or Sweden ?

Would it be economic to fiddle around with different levels of waxing or galvanizing or are the makers looking to save every penny ? Read more

With their very tough MOT type tests I doubt many Japanese cars are on their roads long enough to rust....
