Has anyone here successfully added the power steering system from another Golf onto an 8v Mk2 GTi ? I love my car to bits but boy the steering is heavy - my brother thinks it's probably not too bad a job to do, if we can get the parts. Anyone tried it? Any help appreciated. Read more

Possible, but a big job. You need a new steering rack to start with, plus all the pumps belts brakets etc.

I have a 2003 Ford Fiesta 1.6 Ghia and when I pull away quickly (say at a busy mini roundabout) the steering 'feels' like it is locking giving the sensation of driving along tramlines.

Over the past year I have encountered this 3 or 4 times and on each occasion it was whilst accelerating with the steering turned to the left.

This happens for just a short time and I cannot replicate it to show my husband.

Additionally when driving normally the car feels like I am driving with a full load in the boot, this sensation lessens at 50 or above.

I have checked the tyre pressure.

Can someone tell me if this is normal.

Hi

I am looking at buying a caravan and so need to determine the kerbweight. Looking in the manual I find unladen weight, gross vehicle weight, gross train weight, and gross trailer weight

I assume train weight is the max combined fully loaded car and caravan weight, but am not sure which relates to kerbweight. How does the gross trailer weight fit into this?

Can you help?

Thanks

Kerbweights are given on this site
www.clicreports.co.uk/
Picasso varies from 1240kg (1.6) to 1300kg (2.0HDi)
If you can't work it out yourself the 85% "rule" is also given!!

I had an accident in a company vehicle in January this year. Short version is that I met another vehicle on a sharp bend on a very icy road. Both vehicles skidded (despite very low speeds from both drivers due to the conditions) and we collided.

In March, I had a letter from the company's insurers stating that liability was in dispute. They stated that their suggestion of a 50/50 settlement had been rejected by the other party, and asked for further details and for my opinion. I replied that I considered a 50/50 settlement to be suitable as I did not consider myself or the other driver to be wholly responsible - as we were both travelling at similar speeds, and both skidded.

I have received a letter today from an insurance assessor appointed by my company's insurer. They want to meet to discuss the accident, and also want to visit the scene of the accident.

As I have not been in this situation before, I have no idea what to expect. Can anyone offer any advice? Also, the details of the accident are a little hazy now - I have covered 15 000 miles since then! Recently, when I travelled down the road where I had the accident, I couldn't remember exactly where the accident occurred!

Any advice? Please...

...And all we'd have to do to implement that is :

Step 1: Remove 99% of the cameras

Step 2: Re-install them at 99% of the places that don't currently have one.

Good afternoon folks. Can someone answer me a question please? Do brake pads still contain asbestos? I only ask because I thought they didn't but I saw some the other say that said "Asbestos Free" leading me to believe that others aren't.

Thank you,

Hello, I have a peugeot 405 td with no adjustment left on the cable. It has no adjuster so assume it is the later model with the automatic adjuster. Does the lack of free play suggest a worn out clutch or a problem with the adjuster? Where is the adjuster? It sounds like a tricky job whatever is wrong with it. It has done about 190000 miles. Any advice gratefully received. Thank you. Read more

Final follow up.
Thanks to LeePower and pienmash for suggestions. Finally got under the car and found the auto adjuster. I think the problem was that the clutch had overheated due to some tricky towing and expanded and allowed the adjuster to take up slack which meant that it was too tight when cool. Got round the problem by disengaging the clutch and holding it disengaged with a screwdriver on the arm, let the clutch pedal up, it is then possible to pull the inner right out. Release the clutch arm, then allow the inner cable back into position. Voila, clutch has free play again and doesn't slip (at the moment).
I gather the same system is used on the Xantia so info might come in useful, who knows.
Thanks again.

Question Hot Key Pug
Peter D

I recently rented a Pug 206 1.1 with aircon in the Algarve. I noticed that after 20 minutes of running or so if you turn the ignition off and remove the key the metal part is unexpectedly hot. Is there a design problem there somewhere and too much current id being handled by the ignition switch. Other than that if was a great wee motor and at £193 for a fortnight a good deal as well.
