W-reg 2.5 Elite automatic. The rear-end has risen, of its own accord, about as far as it can go. Both rear wheel arches are completely visible. I took it to my local dealer today (first noticed it yesterday)and they've never seen it before. I've booked it in for Thursday 8th April.
If there are any clues out there, I'd appreciate them before 8th April.
(Recently had to replace the battery - any connection to electrics i.e. suspension control?)

the car has no problems changing gear after this.
This is an automatic car.Can anyone help please?

I have noticed in a number of threads on this board that people would seem to be generally in favour of the view that one of the biggest problems on our roads is uninsured drivers, and that more action should be taken against them.
I totally agree, but I wonder if people would like to see the same lenient approach to them as is sometimes advocated by those who regard breaking the speed limit as acceptable.
Uninsured drivers could quite reasonably argue that not having insurance doesn't make them any more likely to have an accident - after all, what proportion of accidents have their cause attributed to "driver didn't have insurance".
Would it be acceptable for them to be allowed to be uninsured in most areas, as long as they didn't do it at defined accident blackspots? Would they be within their rights to demand that no action be taken against them except at such locations as have a record of fatal accients caused by people not having insurance (unlikely scenario)?
They could then argue that they should be given advance warning of where they might be caught, so that they can take another route. They could also claim that even if they're caught they should be given the opportunity to buy insurance on the spot, therefore avoiding prosecution, then cancel their insurance later and get their money back.
What about those who have had insurance in the past, but have only gone a couple of weeks without insurance - would this be OK? If so, would a couple of months - six months? I mean, how are the poor dears expected to look at a calendar every day to see if their policy has run out?
Finally, it would surely be only fair to impose a token penalty for the first few offences (maybe £60 and 3 penalty points) and only take severe action against them if they get caught 4 times. It would also be an option to send them on a course to teach them how to apply for insurance if they find the whole concept too difficult, and this way they could avoid penalty points.
Should they be given as many get-outs, excuses and ways of avoiding responsibility as those who break the speed limit?
If not, why not? After all, no-one ever heard of "no insurance kills"!

Surely it's a red herring to link insurance directly with safety like speeding or Construction and USe Offences, though I accept the notion that an uninisured driver may well disregard other laws.
The point of insurance is to protect third parties in the event of the driver's stupidity or misjudgement. The real issue is personal injury, not some petty damage to a replaceable car. While the MIB provides a backstop it is a limited scheme with exclusions and my expereince with claimants was that they had a harder time than would other wise be the case.
The magnitude of sentence takes account of a failure to accept a basic responsibility to your fellow citizens. If you disagree with the principle of insurance the Motor Insurance Act already provides a get out; you lodge a security bond in court. The amount demanded will run to millions, but you will be paid the interest. Actually worthwhile for very big fleets IIRC.
hyundai accent y plate, 2001 1.3 i model with 70,000 (mainly motorway miles).
Brought car recently, one thing which is strange to the other cars i drive regulary, when i accelerate and press down on the pedel, its hard to describe but the pedal sounds 'rusty' or sort of makes a weird noise. dont get me wrong it accelerates, but its not as easy at the getz or rover 400 i drive. the pedel seems to make a weird noise and its a little heavier to press down and seems as if its grinding slightly.
could this be rust, as the car has begun to rust at an alarming rate for only 3 years old?
or is it something else. Im reluctant to take ito the the hyundai dealer as they have a habit in this area of ripping people off.
Also, anybody know if fitting brakes the the accent is easy? ive done them before to an old rover 213, but was wondering if the accent is straight forward. Dont forget my model ,is the old facelift (eg, not the old chassis body nor the current car on sale.) Read more
thse cars can rust, but not as bad as their korea neighbours kia!
Can any of you expert help me with this?
My Toyota Camry V6 auto (1992 model) sometimes stalls. It's always when the car has been running for a good while and is thoroughly warmed through. The revs drop away from a steady 800rpm to 300-400rpm and quite often the engine simply stalls. It's worse when the air-con is running, and when reverse is selected. If the engine doesn't stall, the revs gradually pick up again to 800rpm. After a while the whole process starts again.
In all other respects the engine and transmission perform perfectly.
My service agent (no longer the Toyota agent) has had a specialist run a computer check but that revealed no specific problems. Obviously the finger points at the engine management unit. I fear that the Toyota agent's diagnosis would be, without hesitation, 'Replace the EMU' but this is a very old car for such an expensive remedy that is irritating rather than terminal.
Any ideas out there?

Well, given your fault description I would still go with some kind of idle air control valve problem. Maybe take the valve itself off (I'm not familiar with Toyota V6 engines) and give it a really good flush out - make sure it moves easily.
Hope the mods don't mind this, but we've covered this sort of thing before when there's been car specific items.
Next week Aldi and Lidl have gone car accessory bonkers in their selection of weekly specials, with the highlight being a handheld satnav type thing at Lidl, although for the slightly tighter budget Aldi will be doing a quality looking chamois leather for £2.99

Our local village post office is now issuing VED disks. Is this a new national trend or a one off.
Vastly easier to get to than trying to get to a city center one at lunchtime.

The counter clerk must see and check you have the relevant
documents, you couldn't do that by DD.
You could if the much-vaunted computerisation of MOT records ever came to fruition. Everything else can be confirmed directly with a central database now. Big Brother isn't just watching, he's holding your hand and dragging you into the dark places.
Yes SW-might be obeyed has said she would like an mx-5, in october it was a range rover, anyone spot a pattern? !anyway I'm looking for some advice on where to buy without getting caned at this time of year, budget up to £7k, eunos mk1 or mx-5 mk1 or 2. With new ones going for £12.7k it does seem to make a 10year jap import at 4.5-5k retail look a tad pricey! is it possible to buy direct off the boat in auctions in dublin, I thought I had heard of this before. Otherwise any advice appreciated (uk auctions, private seller?), I'd like to keep the cost as low as possible as it will be a third/summer car but likewise the cheap older cars seem a bit too close to the much younger later version cars. HJ saw an mr2 with a hardtop go for £7.7k recently (when it was cold) now that was a bargain! Thanks, Ian Read more
Insurance is no problem as martin says, just use the VIN. Similarly the MOT station will fill in the VIN on the MOT Certificate. The DVLA will then stamp the certificate and fill in the Reg No. when they issue it.
The auctions will supply the relevant import paperwork, proof of overseas registration, customs form etc.
