Further to previous post about my mates dead Previa, we've been trying to shop for a Mondeo replacement over the last two days.
Taking BR advice, looking for a facelift Ghia 97 on with adequate cash in pocket. Rang about a dozen cars in Autotrader within 40 miles radius and more than half of the sellers didn't answer their home or mobile numbers.
Surely if you put an ad in the paper, you need to make sure your mobile is switched on. A real pain, and the couple we looked at were wrecks, so back home empty handed.

Does anyone know what price I should be paying for a new CR-V Executive...and where the best place to buy is? Many thanks. Read more
Thanks very much to everyone who's taken the time to offer advice - very helpful indeed.
Just got back from 2 weeks holiday when my car has not been used. When driving it today had marked judder when pressing brake pedal. No problems when pedal not pressed. No problems if handbrake applied whilst moving. Brakes not seized on when first moving off.
Any ideas what this will be (brakes had very mild judder prior to holiday but nothing like they are now)
All help appreciated. Read more
When you replace them ,put a thin smear of copper grease between the two mating faces.
Instead of having to run the cars on cooking oil as discussed earlier
does anyone know how to take the die out of it
That would keep everyone happy as it would be chear and customs would not know when they dipped the tank Read more

My polo(52 reg) has, I'm told by the main dealer, a failed wishbone brush in the suspension. VW have yet to create a modified part, and other owners have been waiting since September 03 for this part. Anyone got any suggestions other than go back to buying nissans? This is my 2nd polo and I'm quite disappointed with VW's highhanded approach to aftersales.

Sorry PG, no sign of Hammond. Read more
Richard Hammond?? Can I find him in a book about ethnography? Might make the whole process a bit less painful!
On the bright side, I wrote 1010 words last night, bringing the total to just over 3000 and meaning there's 10,000 to go and just under 3 weeks to do it in. Hmmm.
Does anyone out there have a tuning box in a 2000 406 90bhp
If so what are the positives and negatives sides of it
Has anyone seen any problems as a result of having it installed

groups.msn.com/honestjohn - Pictures say a thousand words.....
Just spotted the new RenaultSport Megane 225 at £15,500 at one of the new car discounters. Surely a hot contender in the value-for-money hot hatch stakes?
Other front runners - Civic Type R, Leon Cupra R......cheaper and more powerful than both of them. Suppose Alfa 147 GTAs might eventually drop even further in price, but then purchase price is not the real cost(!)
Anyone considering a punt on the ample-reared Renault?

To be honest, given the discounts on the rest of the Mégane range, it's only to be expected. If it's your company car though, you'll still be taxed on £20k.
Well the CTR is a high revving nutter car, and therefore probably attracts a buyer with different priorities than the very civilised Mégane. However, the Leon is a very similar concept - torquey turbo, grand tourer rather than high revving B-roads, and in that sense is threatened a bit. However, it seems they are selling all the Cupra Rs they want to, so it's probably no big deal and there are plenty who would have a Cupra because it's a value Golf GTi, simply because of that.
As the hot hatch treatment reminds me of the R19 16v, one of my favourite cars of all time, I love it - but I am prepared to be in a minority opinion here.
Just seen this on an automotive biz news service. (May have spotted mention of it in BR before but search yielded nil.) Well, is this really news or is the US just catching up on what's been pretty routine over here for some time?
"GM's oil system challenges standard 3,000-mile service recommendation
GM claims it can double or even triple the time between oil changes in vehicles when compared to the common 3,000-mile recommendation simply by being able to evaluate driving conditions using its patented Oil Life System.
"30 Mar 2004, 18:03 GMT - The oil system is currently fitted in about 95% of GM manufactured vehicles as well as on a wide variety of models since the mid-1990s. In total there are an estimated 20 million vehicles on the road that are equipped with GMOLS. The system itself uses an algorithm that tracks engine revolutions and temperature and predicts oil life based on these parameters and driver use.
"The technology represents a departure from a convention industry approach based upon maintenance intervals on mileage. Instead of a complicated list of different services to be performed at different mileage intervals, GM's simplified maintenance schedules are rooted on the change oil light message." Blah blah blah...

Oldsmobile 1919 v8, but beaten by Harry Ricardo 1901,IIRC.
No, not withholding number. Understand the seller might be driving or otherwise occupied, but we adopted a military precision exercise from Thursday. All suitable vehicles printed out on A4 sheet, notes made time of call, response etc. Many pages just have a couple of days worth of calls with "no reply" noted.
