Last Saturday in Boulogne we parked in the old town for a delicious meal (I have recommendations if anyone's interested) and the Jeep's remote locking wouldn't work. Locked manually and meal duly enjoyed. Had to unlock manually afterwards too. Before and since there's been no problem.
This has only happened once before - oddly also in France, at Dunquerque. That time we were, er, outside another excllent restaurant. The point is we were parked under HT lines, which I thought could be causing the problem that time.
I could see no obvious HT lines or mobile phone masts in Boulogne, so unless these were very cleverly disguised I have no idea why this happened.
Anyone got any ideas?
Terry

I am considering buying a late 1970's early 80's Merc 300sl and would like to ask the forum what I should be looking for (good points and bad) and obtain the generally held views of the vehicle.
This will be a weekend car used sparingly but would still like to buy the best possible on a budget of no more than 10K.
Any advice welcome.

Roger,
The simple answers are usually the best, I cannot believe I not think of it.
This forum is definitely the best
Thanks for the advice

Given your experience of 1600 km driving, do you not feel 140Km/Hr in a car without ABS is just a touch excessive?
Is there anyone who can tell me the model number of the 6CD autochanger fitted by renault to a new renault clio with a tunner list radio?
Thanks Read more
You can get the for £55 (I did) of Clio forums.
Make sure the wire works as they cost £90 from Renault.
There a stanard connection on the back of all Renault new style cd players for a changer even the cassessete ones have the connection.
The gear change is cable operated on this model. The gears are difficult to change when engine is cold. The car has only done a certified 60k. Gear change is very notchy and audible, sometimes quite stiff, sometimes ok. I will check cable adjustments and check transmission oil. It should be 10/40 grade. With engine idling the gears can be selected ok. Might it help to change the transmission oil? The manual does stipulate periodic changes. A lot of mechanics say this is unnecessary. If anyone has experience of working on cable operated gear boxes I would welcome a reply. Many thanks. MJ Read more
Anyone bought one of these? At £7.50 they seem a real steal. Read more
You cannot go complain about these CDs as there illegal copies.
I had to wait just over 2 weeks for mine and was just about to write to the lad asking about them when I got them though the post. It wasn't an ebay seller though. I take it the seller has sold a few other bits and has a good reputation?
Saw a motorhome last week towing a Ford Ka via a short towbar. No friver in Ka, all four wheels on ground. I've seen breakdown trucks towing this way too.
So how does the towed car not decide it wants to take a different course to the one that's towing it? Tracking, tyre pressures, etc spot-on? Steering locked? Or do vehicles towed in this way just behave themselves naturally?
And what happens on sharp corners and roundabouts. Does towed vehicle just follow obediently regardless (implying that the front wheels turn into the turn)? Or do the front tyres drag across the tarmac (like a three-axle trailer on an artic)?
Is there some magic at work here? Or just something (else) I don't understand? Read more
Reminds me of the time we were on a bus outing, there I was sitting in the nearside of the bus enjoying the views of our glorious countryside as it came into my field of vision, the bus driver was slowly overtaking traffic when, overtaking a large salloon car I was shocked at seeing what appeared to be a driverless car!.
Must admit I was relieved to see it was being towed.

Anyone with any (sensible) advice as to where to position right foot (apart from end of leg) when using cruise control? Some cars have a foot rest to the right of the accelerator pedal - mine doesn't. I find it tiring to hold my foot above the pedal and resting against the pedal often overides cruise control. Resting my foot flat on the floor, whilst comfortable, feels downright dangerous. Similarly, resting against brake pedal, whilst safest option in event of having to brake, also risks deactivating cruise control. Read more

Returning to my earlier granstand view of a bad snaking 'incident' : the basic cause seemed to be the HGV generated ruts in lane 1 of the M3, particualry bad northbound between basingstoke & fleet services. The caravan was just not quite wide enough to sit in the ruts; and so 'hunted' between them, which amlified the snaking motion. Not sure if there are any rutted sections between Kent & Cambs ????
Sometimes there are electricity cables under the road which can have this effect too, so you might not even see it.
