In January I placed an order with a well known East Midlands car dealership for a brand new Mitsubishi Carisma. I specified to the dealer that it must brand new and I specifically excluded preregistration, since it came with 3 years free servicing when new as part of the deal. I signed on the dotted line and left.
Come today I went to pick up my "new" 04 reg car only to be informed that they had been unable to supply a new unregistered car and had preregistered it and also that there was no free servicing with it. I nearly blew up in the showroom. I was stuck in a town many miles from hone / work with no way to get back so i took the car when they offered 2 years free servicing as a goodwill gesture, since I live in a village with no bus service to speak of and having on friday sold my old car privately. I am absolutely fuming, The order placed was for a brand new car with the service package and theyve supplied a prereg one (which I specifically excluded) with a consessionary offer of 2 services. I have made a formal complaint to my local Trading Standards Office and I have emailed the BBC Watchdog Program. This utterly shabby treatment of me is disgusting. The dealer actually claimed I had walked in and asked for a prereg car. A total canard! What I am supposed to do now? Any advice massively gratefully recieved. Read more

Oh dear, you don't seem to have much luck when it comes to ordering new cars. Are you the same person that had all the problems trying to order a new Fiat Stilo from an internet dealer and says the build quality on UK built Toyotas is not up to much?
There are of course two sides to every story and it would be very intresting to hear the unfortunate Mitsubishi dealers take on things, they are of course making deals with different people every working day and hopefully don't make the same awful mistakes/deceits that they did with you.
Lets just hope that all can be resolved, life really is to short and the lawyers are wealthy enough.

The problem i am having is with the air conditioning, it does not operate below 10-11oC. The car is a Renault Clio dCi80

I bought the car in June 2003. The problem did not appear until October when the weather started to get colder.

The car has been in 6 times to be fixed, the last time the car was off the road for just under a full calendar month. Got it back and it still doesnt run.

The dealer could not fix it on their own so they got the techincal expert from Renault UK to look at it the last time.

When at the dealer one time i got them to fire up a car they had on the forecourt, it operated at 3oC no problem.

I have done 11,000 miles in the car but still feel i have a good case for rejection as the fault could not have been identified when i boufght it due to the warmer weather. I also feel i have given them more than enough time to fix it (from October).

I feel i should get a refund for the car and not just the price of the air conditioning as i wouldnt have bought that model of car if it didnt have it. This is not the only problems i have had with the car and it has been back to the dealers on several occasions for 3 other faults.

Any advice/help would be gratefully received, im at my wits end over this :(

Just noticed some mayo round the oil filler cap today, not huge amounts, just enough to coat the surface at the very top of the filler. I've wiped it all off and will wait to see if it builds up again.

Is this a sign of impending HG doom and will it require (as always) open wallet surgery?

Background:
The car doesn't use any oil and the coolant level is pretty constant. In the past few months it has been used almost daily for very short journeys (<2 miles) but every couple of weeks gets a long M'way run too - beginning of Feb drove to Paris, Xmas/NY went to Inverness etc. and the occasional italian tune-up.

The car has covered 112K and had a "full" service around 8K ago, and is due for a service in a couple of weeks. The car has always been well maintained, most of the problems in the last couple of years being well documented on this site.

Thanks in advance,

Chad.

Thanks DD, I thought it probably was mainly due to the short trips but needed the reassurance of an expert opinion.
Cheers,

When servicing my wife's car back in January I noticed a stepped ridge on the inner edge of the LH rear tyre with the tyre carcass exposed by lifting tread. I then checked the RH rear and there were the beginnings of the same fault. I promptly had both tyres changed and arranged for the tyre manufacturer to inspect them.

The response I have had is a proportional percentage of the purchase cost based on the life left in the tyres.

Quote:
?The concession is of a commercial nature only and does not constitute an admission of liability, nor imply a fault with the tyre.? ?The concession is given on the residual value of the product; this is based on the useable tread left on the tyre at its removal. This is the standard industry practice.? Unquote

Before accepting their offer my question is - are these tyres of a merchantable quality if they go like this within 12 months?

With people sueing at the drop of a hat, a company is not going to admit liability, or even give any sort of statement which suggests that they have got things wrong, even if it would be good PR.

I see Haynes do not currently do a manual for this car.
Anybody know of any alternative good sources?

I have asked dealers for these CDs and they claim they
aren't available, but they don't seem to mind them on ebay.
as enthusiast owners raise a marques perception, because there will be
more of their cars on the road looking good even when
they're old, so people will think they're long lived and durable.

Not so sure about this. I know from reading a couple of newsgroups that BMW and MB have had a big crackdown on these CD's sold in the USA. Look on the US eBay site and you won't see them now. There are several prosecutions pending and there is a news report of one guy who sold them on eBay who's facing quite a few years in jail over there......

I'm trying to source a supplier who can build a turbo to supply my needs. I would prefer a ball bearing turbo which rules out Turbotechnics. This is the email and posts I've sent to numerous turbo contacts.
Anyone here have any ideas?
Thanks

I'm trying to source a performance hybrid turbo for my 2.3T Saab. It has a Garrett T25 (CHRA 443854-55 TE1818F) as standard and did produce 220hp at 1.0bar boost pressure. I have additional items on the engine now and need a turbo which will spool up fast but also be able to supply up to 2.0 bar boost when required without running out of steam.
I've been in touch with 4 turbo specialists in the UK and have got 4 different specs on what I should buy! I'm confused!!

This is what I posted on a performance website....
I'm in the process of trying to get a ball bearing hybrid for my 2.3 Carlsson. One specialist says I need a GT 28 Series good for 320-360hp another says I need a T25-T28 with a .64 exh housing and a .42 or .6 or go to a 0.8 T250 compressor housing, another says I need a T28 with a .64 housing as fitted to 4x4 Cosworths.

Another US company told me this....
Looks like I have one more recommendation to confuse you with :-)
I would actually suggest a smaller T3/T4 hybrid. The reason being is twofold, one - even our largest T3 will only support about 325 HP at the flywheel which is a far cry from your 350+ goal. Two - I can't see a T2/28 series turbo producing that much HP. I haven't seen one yet.
As far as the exact turbo, I would suggest the T3/T4E hybrid with Super E50 compressor wheel & Stage II turbine wheel with a .63 A/R turbine housing ( T3 Flange ).

I'm running a gas flowed head, 3" JT exhaust, no cat, Aquamist running 50% methanol, modded airbox with JT filter, mbc plus minor other mods on this engine and am running about 1.6 bar but this might go up to 2.0 bar as I have a race engine built awaiting fitting thus want a turbo which will be able to supply 350+hp reliably.

Preferably the turbo will be a straight swap, but small mods to oil feed and return and waterpipes can be accepted.

Can you supply me with something suitable with what spec and at what cost.

Abbott Racing cannot help me. They aren't geared up for what I want and their prices are very expensive also.

A friend of mine recently advertised his car on a \'Trader\' type web site and received a reply as per (censored) copy of e-mails below.

Have other Backroomers had similar replies? How did you / would you react?

I\'d be grateful for any pointers regarding a problem on a Mk3 Golf: The power steering is becoming juddery, particularly when cold and the servo assistance seems absent at times. The fluid level is OK.

Having spent over £500 the car already this year I\'m hoping it won\'t be too expensive to fix! Many thanks for any advice. Read more

Are you sure the drive belt is clean and tensioned appropriately and the fluid level is correct. Regards Peter

I'm driving a Land Rover Discovery (for work - not my choice!!) and in the last 15months its done 2500miles - but Land Rover are saying that it needs to be serviced to keep the warranty in force.

My problem is the low mileage means that I don't think that it should be serviced yet! What do other BRs think about this? Am I just being over cautious, and are LR just trying to get more money out of the small company I work for?

Thanks for the replies.

I know the car hasn't been used for long - but in the last 2 weeks of me joining the small company, I've managed to complete 15% of the total cars mileage - taking it on long runs across the country for work etc.

In response about using a bicycle - I'd agree, but using the back of a bike to put a weeks supply from the cash and carry for a busy restaurant isn't really practical :-p

The owners bought the car for its size - can get all the shopping in, and also take 7 of the staff home at the end of the night - but he's scared of driving it too much as he finds it too big - D'OH!!! I too prefer my nippier car, but when work calls - I'll use it!!!

It's going in for its service tomorrow!

Question mini cooper s
cooper s

Having been delighted with my previous Mini Cooper, I bought a Mini Cooper S in July 2003 from deleted. Unfortunately my particular vehicle had a fault when moving off from cold. Although the dealer rectified this by reprogramming the software, it resulted in a new fault, causing \"lumpy\" acceleration between 2500 and 3500 rpm; I believe this problem is well known to BMW, and has been described by American enthusiasts as the Yo-Yo effect.

They have tried on 3 subsequent occasions to rectify this fault, to no avail. They have told me that it is a characteristic of the car, which I do not accept, as I have driven two others which do not display the fault - one belongs to a friend, and the other was a demonstration vehicle; their last offering was that they had two others in the service bay which were worse than mine!

Any ideas on how to rectify the fault???
