I have tried numerous sites, I want the reg from my first car, now wrote off, but can\'t seem to get it, why don\'t they re-issue numbers after a while. The number I want was on a 56 Austin Cambridge LML 303.

Hi, my brother is looking to replace his standard fit radio in his 206 with an mp3 head unit, but retain the steering controls and dashboard display.
Anyone any idea if this is possible? Read more
Thanks for your replies guys, I will pass the info on to him. Any more information would also be welcome, perhaps from someone who has actually done it?
Maybe I should lose all self esteem and approach one of the many boy racers who have customised 206's and ask them what they did!!
Wife thinks I'm obsessed but I've got a spasmodic rattle coming from the rear/boot somewhere which is driving me mad. I just can't locate it. Neighbours think that I am mad when I keep thumping the interior. I just can't locate it.
Can anyone help please? Read more
I know what you mean.
My Nissan QX is an extremely quiet car - you can barely hear the engine even at high cruising speeds, and there is little wind or road noise. However I have a faint 'tapping' which I hear about once every 10-20 minutes. It happens when I brake or accelerate (but not on a bumpy road surface!). Comes from my right-hand-side somewhere. I thought maybe it was the power antenna moving slightly back and forth - but its not.
My wife never hears it and thinks I'm bonkers, but I find it very annoying. The snag with these things is that you only hear them very occassionally and it is impossible to reporduce in the driveway.
I even had my son lying across the back of the car. He heard it once or twice but couldn't locate it. I actually wish it would get worse so that I could find out what it is!

With a few less than happy posts regarding warranties on used vehicles, I thought I ought to post this and update it as it progresses
My recently purchased Discovery came with a Motorplan Premier Warranty. However, as the previous owner pointed out, she missed the last service and it may therefore be technically void.
So, having had the service done and received a clean bill of health (from the LR that is) I contacted Motorplan today to ask them what the situation was with reference to the above.
The service is approx 8 weeks and 2000 miles overdue according to the Land Rover schedule. They have asked me to send in copies of all the service history with the £25 transfer fee to get it transferred to my name. They have undertaken to consider it on its merits.
I fully accept that they reserve the right to declare the warranty null and void as the vehicle missed this service by more than the margin they allow, however I am hopeful that goodwill will prevail when they see the extensive and complete service history. I have the chap's name to send the paperwork to - all 37 pages of copied SH, MOTs etc!
As I say, I'll keep you updated.

I have a 2002 RSX (Integra) manual. It has 160BHP which generates 141 lb/ft of torque @ 4000 rpm. The Type-S version has 200BHP which generates 142 lb/ft of torque @ 6000 rpm! Please help me understand this. That means to get the extra 40HP in the S you have to rev each gear to 6000 and higher? I would much rather get all my torque down lower at the 4000 point. For driving around in every day life, around the neighborhood and cities streets it would be awful to have to rev all the way to 6000 in every gear, my neighbors would have called the cops on me a long time ago! Plus it just seems that in the 55MPH or less speeds the car with the lower torque would be a lot more zippy and fun. Am I missing something? It seems like the very high redlines that Honda has been making is at the sacrifice of low RPM torque. So unless you get to drive on a race track to work everyday these engines are rather boring in the real world. The S2000 is even worse redlining at 9000, you have to go up all the way to 6800rpm just to start to get your power! They have lowered the reline in the 2004 S2k to the 8000 point. Maybe Honda is starting to realize this problem? Read more
LOL Well I did start this thread and I don?t mind it being ?hijacked? at all! I find all this info about diesels to be very interesting!
Has anyone else noticed how many old style Mondeos there are on the road with broken bumpers? I noticed one or two and now I can't stop myself looking at any I meet mondeo to see if its bumper is intact (about 1 in 10 are not).
I other peoples experiance are then any other cars that always seem to have similar damage?

I repaired my company car Mondeo bumper with Ispon bumper filler, sprayed it the correct colour with off the shelf sprak from big H and no one noticed. Cost about £12.
No need to tell the leasing company.
Hopefully you can help
My car (92 Cit AX) has been SORN'd for about 6 months and is coming back to me tommorrow. It has had a standard replacement engine put in. I have also had it MOT'd and my insurance is sorted so all i need to do is re tax it. Do i just go to the post office on monday with my V5, insurance, MOT, etc and get a new tax disc (by filling in one of there forms) or is there something i have to do first.
also the engine number on the V5 will be wrong because it's had the replacement engine put in it. Can i still tax the car with the V5 with the original engine number on it or am i going to have to send the V5 off first and wait for that to come back (which could take weeks!!!)
Cheers

Get the tax disc sorted out, get the car back home and then tell DVLA about the engine change.

in which a VW platform engineer says that the New Beetle won't be re-luanched on the Golf V platform.....
which makes sense since it would presumably cost VW ...
Since I want to replace our 1.6 Beetle in 2005 (when finance is up), anyone know if VW are going to pop the new tdi 2.0 16v in - the current tdi isn't 2005 emissions spec ? Or the 105bhp 1.9 I suppose...
And the 1.8T & V5 will have to make way for the turbo FSI petrol engines.... Read more
I've noticed from listening to traffic reports over the last few weeks on Radio 2 there seem to be a lot of hold-ups caused by lorries losing their loads or similar.
On the railway, the company who causes a delay is fined and compensation is paid to other companies affected. Would something similar work on the road network?
For example, a poorly maintained lorry breaks down causing havoc on the M6 - the owners are fined and anyone who can prove hardship resulting from the delay get compensation. The lorry owner will get the message they need to maintain their fleet better. Similarly, a load shift on a truck - the driver will be leaned on to make sure the load is properly secured before leaving rather than saving a few minutes but costing others lots more.
Ideas?
The only problem I can see is that you'd effectively have to have extra insurance to cover this risk as it's unlikely any one person would be able to afford a realistic fine for delays caused. It does, however, strike me as a way to make people take things like vehicle maintainance more seriously. Read more
Steve how did you finally end up in the situation with
the accident @ work?
I think it's on another thread somewhere. Was mis-advised as to the potential consequences of fighting it in court and neither her or her insurer would even entertain discussions as to the expenses - they wanted the full amount or nothing so I paid up to avoid a court case.
BTW the idea of compo will never work, how do you
prove you were there and were affected.
True. It's easy on the rail network as it's all monitored - has to be for safety. You could trace those trapped in any hold-up and unable to divert, but as you point out, those who divert to avoid it can't prove it. Still, I think it needs something, some major hint that if you cause an avoidable delay you can be hit with a big fine - not just billed by the police but a charge for the delay itself so you'd better take more care...

Their was it issued service says LML303 was first registered in 1942 from Middlesex DVLA office.
They have a service where they can find the plate for you.
Often with these sorts of plates (where the donor vehicle was scrapped) the number is still waiting to be reissued. However as it is a dateless plate it will no doubt turn up at one of the DVLA Sale Of Marques auctions in the future. Newreg.com will inform you if this happens if you register with them.
