The LPG system on a friend's car decided to pack up at the weekend. The car is an "S" reg Rover 820 Auto, with (but don't quote me on this) a LaVorta? LPG conversion. The car was driven all the way from Oxfordshire to Dover and onto the Ferry to France with no problems whatsoever. However, upon leaving the Ferry in France the car refused to run on LPG. It starts up fine on Petrol, but as soon as the LPG system switches over automatically the engine stops dead immediately. At first she thought the v.hot weather in France was the problem, but when back in the UK it still would only run on Petrol.
I've tried looking at the obvious - loose wires, etc, but to no avail. There are a couple of solenoids that click when the system changes over and I have checked the voltage they're recieving (13.75v) I guess it's a trip to an LPG Doctor, but her local man charges £75 just to plug the diagnostic equipment in, before even considering doing any repairs!
A long shot, but Can anyone suggest I try something else before handing it over to the experts? Read more
Can anyone recommend an LPG specialist in the Oxfordshire / Berkshire area that not only installs LPG systems, but also repairs them when they go wrong? Read more
Afternoon,
If anyone knows of any good value body repair outfits in Bournemouth then please post their name on here.
I'm looking to sort a couple of dents and a small scrape on the nearside door of our silver Ford Ka prior to trade-in.
Thanks in advance.

I reckon you\'d be wasting your money if you are trading in. Dealers in my experience hardly look at a car before they give you a price, and even if they did, they can probably get the dings done cheaper than you can. The trade-in value would be not much different if you traded with or without dents.
maybe someone in the trade can confirm this.
Has any one experienced cracks in the bodywork of their 406 coupe below the wing mirrors? Would this be a paintwork warranty claim, and would independant assessors need to verify the problem/ claim? Read more
has anyone had problems with the new micra's keyless opening system, that seems to keep resetting itself. A common problem I am informed by my dealer, which means that you (the customer) has to ring the RAC to get them to pick up the car and deliver to the garage for a reset, that can keep happening. Experts,
I'm shortly going to be attempting to do my best impression of a Wrong Car Right Car contestant.
Wrong Car - Ford Ka3 '98. Metallic silver 15k miles. Air con, alloy wheels - standard Ka3 spec etc. all in very good nick.
Right Car - Seat Leon Cupra June '02. Metallic blue 11K miles. Southampton main dealer Seat. Main dealer warranty etc.. (won't tell you the forecourt price as thats spoiling it)
What should I looking to aim for as my target cost to change (i.e my car + £???). Sensible answers only please.
Thanks very much in advance.

Just a thought, but have you tried to talk a 'deal' on a NEW one?
They might have handfuls of dealer bonuses to tempt you with!

The oil breather in the back of the block has become so heavily blocked with oil sludge that the whole crankcase is pressurising itself forcing oil leakage at Filler cap and dipstick.
I can find nothing in Haynes about removal, but I am sure that it is a wire mesh secured behind a pop in seal breather pipe stub.
Access is apparently impossible!
I have cleaned out the rubber pipe but still blocked.
I wonder about pouring degreasant down the breather, leaving for 24 hrs, (and then change the oil). Or trying to blast the crud back the way it came using compressed air.
Any better suggestions?

Done it. Not the easiest 20 minute job!
For future reference (for any one else), a piece of steel pipe 65mm int diameter aprox 3cm long is needed to make a dolly. It makes it easier if the cut out for the breather pipe is a hole, rather than a slot. This means that dolly will hold itself in position while trying to drive it home with the side of a club hammer.
I took of all the paint and a little bit of metal on the leading edge, and froze the insert before fitting to a warm engine. First 10 attempts failed. Then just poppped in.
Anybody who thinks that they are going to do it lying on the ground without a pit forget it!

I am looking for a fully loaded Seat Alhambra 1.9TDi, new or nearly new. Do any of you know a good place to buy one? I was thinking of one of those deep-discounted importers...
BTW: Does Alhmabra come in a comparable spec as the Sharan Sport 1.9PD? I only saw the Alhambra Sport with the V6. (The 'Sport' suspension takes out the body roll quite nicely...)
BTW2: the ideal Alhambra would be the 4Motion Sport TDi, but that is not even availble as a Sharan in the UK. On the continent you can get that model, but guess what: VW Sharan is cheaper here than over there! And I just don't want to spend £28K on the 4Motion, if the 2WD is below £20K here.
Thanks for the replies. Read more
Good choice!
Am on my second Alhambra, went for 20VT engine with SE trim.
Excellent engine and trim includes sport suspension which is vast improvement. Spec is very high as is build quality. Last Alhambra went to just over 100,000 miles with only servicing required.

Lovato would be the system manufacturer
