Only about 20 votes as far as I can see, but they now include mine. (disagreeing in the main) I spent a year or so in Sheffield and the air quality is the least of their concerns if you ask me.

Whatever next? Gravitation pull of passing traffic affecting tree growth? Harumph.

Does any body have any idea as to the general reliability of modern ford 16v engines fitted to the latest mondeo\'s. How do they rate in terms of performance, durability and reliability.

If we are talking about the latest (2001-on) 'Duratec' engines which have a chain-driven cam, then these are likely to be a good engine. The engine was designed by Mazda (Ford own 49% of Mazda) and manufactured in slightly different specs. around the world. The engine appears in the Mazda 6, various Fords, Mecurys etc. and Mazda small trucks etc. The ones fitted to UK Fords are made in Mexico I think.

As to reliability - well I don't think the statistics yet exist to say whether they will routinely do 200k, but Mazda have a long tradition of building reliable engines.

Interesting how Ford are pulling out of designing anything they make. Small engines designed by Yamaha, mid-capacity by Mazda, auto-transmission interests now sold to ZF, Mazda to design the next generation of manual tranmissions...........

Bumpers on my Rover 218 are various shades of the grey plastic, thanks to years of wear & tear and I can't find what will get them back to a uniform appearance.

I've tried "Mer", petrol, meths, brake cleaner, Jif, white spirit, blanket spirit, turbo spray on my garden pressure washer - none have done the job.

Any bright brain out there can offer me some advice please? I'm not against doing it inch by inch, but I can't find the right solvernt/cleaner....... yet Read more

Andrew, you're right, I don't want black bumpers. I followed your tips and bought Autoglym Bumper Car today and it's just the job!! Ran out of daylight doing things tonight but the results so far are clearly just what I needed. So, thanks for the advice!

I see this was moved to discussion - I would have thought it more a technical solution? Maybe I now need to review Discussions as much as Technical!
