Risky

I came across this dealer via a link from this site and was very impressed with the 'pre-registered' price of a particular model that I am looking to buy. Having checked out their site it appears they are a relatively new start outfit (vat no. gives it away)and therefore wonderered whether I should be concerned with dealing with a new start outfit? Has anyone used them before? and if so, how were they? What should I look out for in dealing with a 'pre-registered' vehicle? With only delivery mileage and the full manufacturer's warranty, am I really being over cautious or is this an area with pitfalls?
I would be very grateful for any advice / tips before I take the plunge
Many thanks

I've checked out the brokers listed on this site also, and although their prices are very keen, on the model I'm looking at the difference is as much as £1,100 between the lowest broker and the pre-registered price from UKCars4Less.

I'm off to search the web for any info about them. Any previous customers out there?

Hi, I bought 6 months ago an Omega for £2900 and have recently had problems of excessive oil consumption and power loss.

Having taken it to the main dealer they cleaned up a valve replaced a hose and replaced the cam gasket.

Since this has happened the car seems to have been smoking a lot and using a ton of oil.

I took it back again and was informed that the piston rings are probably knackered and a new engine would cost £2100!!

I love the car but have become very frustrated by this especially as it has only done 75k with a full vauxhall service history.

Has anyone any idea if this fault can be repaired or where I might find a cheaper recon engine in the essex/suffolk area?

Any help will be much appreciated. Read more

Daz I'm sorry, this isn't help with your problem at all - but just a suggestion. When posting here, it sometimes takes a little while for the post to pass from your computer to the site. It's very tempting to assume the first post has failed, and to post again - but as you can see, that's usually not the case ;)

Hopefully someone will be along soon to help with your Omega question.

The right-hand side of the dash display on my 2 year-old Citroen picasso has inexplicably dimmed, when compared to the left display. It makes no differnce adjust the display wheel, it dims both, but the rh one more so. Is it a known problem?

www.citroenpicasso.org.uk will be able to help. I think it is a known problem and fairly easy dealer fix under warranty.

Should I be surprised that the VCA database advises VED of £105 for a new Suzuki Wagon R but because the Registration Document says emissions are 152 g/km when you go to the Post Office you get charged £125?

I Asked the dealer what was up and they said they could only use the figure quoted on the Reg Doc. I phoned Suzuki and they said the emissions were 145g/km but as I could only talk to a C3PO [customer services] he could not give any reason for the discrepancy. I asked to talk to an R2D2 [technical] but you have to be a Suzuki dealer to be able to talk to an R2D2. The dealer phoned them and was told that the newest Wagon R is a bit heavier than older models so the emissions have gone up.

Why has the VCA database not been updated? It clearly can not be taken as a reliable up to date research tool for anyone comparing new vehicles VED. Read more

Thanks Rebecca - Very interesting that it gives the same figure as the first one given by the Suzuki C3P0 and probably the same as the one being used by VCA - but not the one on the Registration Document which will be used by the post office to take an extra £20 a year off me.

I guess I should be grateful that it is consistant with one of the other values rather than an entirely new one to add to the confusion but its a bit disappointing that a motorist can get significantly different values depending upon which 'respectable and reliable' sources they use.

Anyway £20 a year more for 2g/km more than the lower band - I hope Gordon spends it wisely.

Hi,
I have problem with the squealing/dragging sound on my VW Polo 1.3 from 1992.

The squealing or dragging sound is constant and it only stops when I press the clutch pedal in.

Can someone explain what the problem is?
What do I have to fix?

Appreciate all advices

My 1997 Polo has a similar-sounding noise. In my case it isn't very loud - it's drowned out by other noises at motorway speeds.
The noise was noticable at 50k miles and got worse up to about 60k but since then (now 103k) hasn't changed significantly.
As DD suggests, I have been advised that it is the clutch thrust bearing and to leave it until it gets noisier or the clutch wears out.

Hope this is of some use

HI
I have a small stone chip ( about 2mm) with a crack about 5mm in total length. The chip is in line with my line of sight. I have been told that this is an MOT failure even if I have the chip repaired Is this so ?

I believe I added the htm which is not required. Your second reference points covers where I was trying to direct to.

I\'ve corrected your post anyway. DD.

Dear all,

As a slightly different technical matter, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this:

Why does a 3 cylinder petrol engine emit that distinctive buzzy sound, (as a driver of a Suzuki Swift 1.0 '3 pot' I'm well used to it!).

I emailed HJ direct and he said it was due to 'inherent imbalance'. Knowing how busy he is, I was wondering if any of you could elaborate on this. Why is it that one cylinder less (from 4) produces such a distinctive noise, so different to a 4 pot. With the growing popularity of 3 cylinder engines, (eg VAG 1.2 unit, plethora of them amongst small Japanese cars etc) I'm sure this issue may be of wider interest.

Mnay thanks
Regards,

Rob E

Interesting, MM. I could have sworn it used GS running gear though, rather than 2CV - I doubt the latter would allow it to climb 1:1 slopes without extraordinay gearing!

Ironic (and a shame) that someone should design a car to prevent the locals being ripped off by the West, and then proceed to rip them off himself...

My mothers insurance came up for renewal. I was a named driver on her policy. As i hit a lamp post at the beggining of the year, but didnt claim, i informed her insurer. This put the price up, so she decided to take me off the policy as a named driver, and add me as and when. Fair enough.

So i tell my insurance company i have been removed from her policy and they tell me i owe them an additional £367! I just dont understand how this affects my liability to them?

Incidentally, both myself and my mother are insured with elephant.

Seems a great deal from Skoda at the moment for Skoda Octavia vRS on 0% finance. Anybody bought one on this offer and if so, did you get a good deal? Also, which insurers were the most competitive?

As an aside, can anyone tell me the difference between ASR and ESP, from a VW perspective?
