Question LDV Convoy
Wales Forester

I have an LDV Convoy and the fuel gauge has stopped working. I've removed the electrical connector on the fuel tank sender and tested it for a live feed and there is no power.
Any Convoy owners/drivers had the same trouble?
Any ideas where to go from here?
I'd rather not dismantle the dashboard just yet!

UPDATE:
The wet floor was traced to leaks from both wiper spindles, but this meant changing the whole linkage (thanks LDV!), (the new spindles have been siliconed in). Not long had a new radiator Vansboy so she's watertight with the coolant at the mo.

The screen has recently been changed too along with the rubber, its a poor fit where the fibreglass high roof meets the metal work at the top of the screen corners, the Auto Windscreens guys filed it down a bit so the new rubber fits a bit better, doesn't seem to be leaking thru there though thankfully.

Very simple construction these LDV's, no way you could completely remove the dash in a Transit in 10 mins!

Still can't get the bleedin fuel gauge to work though.

A new one on me this (having only owned a diesel from new for 2 years and it's not strictly relevant yet). The Vehicle Inspectorate's card at my local MoT workshop states:
"The test has been developed so that it will not damage your engine. After checking the oil temperature to make sure your engine is warm, the tester will accelerate the engine 3 - 6 times from idle speed until the governor cuts in. Your engine will not be run like this for any length of time, and if it has been reasonably well maintained the test will not damage it."
Although my car has been maintained scrupulously, the above has (to me) worrying undertones. Am I being neurotic? :(

Well where I come from (Northern Ireland) most people get round the diesel emissions by adding one part petrol to ten parts diesel: 20 litres diesel and two litres petrol. Strangely I haven't tried it in my new (204BHP) BMW 330d ...

******** Volume full & closed, please see volume 8. ********

In this thread you may ask any question for which you need help, advice, suggestions or whatever.

It does not need to be motoring related. In fact, in this thread it should not be.

No politics
No Speeding, speed cameras, traffic calming
No arguments or slanging matches
Nothing which I think is not following the spirit of the thread.

I will delete any of the above. If the thread becomes difficult to maintain I will simply remove it.

However, as has been said a couple of times, there is a wealth of knowledge in here, much of which is not motoring related, but most of which is useful.

This is Volume 7. Volume 6 will not be deleted. Read more

I have a 99 Astra 1.6 16V CD on which the mileage readout has just disappeared. Everything else appears to be OK, just the trip and total mileage readouts not lit up. Any ideas how to fix this? Read more

Could anyone give me some advice on how to get the clock out and how to get behind my instruments to change these bulbs.

Apologies if this thread's been pursued before (may be someone can give me a link?) but I'm ducking out of the company car scheme and need some private insurance.

Who's the cheapest/best service etc, and does anyone know if they take into account six years with no claims as a company driver?

I'm with Renault Family regarding Direct Line. Everything has been cheap and easy - renewals, claims, everything. Just took out full worldwide health insurance for the family for the year as they were cheaper than it would have cost for three of us for a two week holiday through a tour operator.

This may invoke the wrath of the mods for being only partly motoring but....going on a drving hols thru Andalucia at Easter. Any recommendations for small, charming hotels suitable for us and kids (7&4) to stay for 2/3 nights at a stretch?
Whilst I'm on, of the rental quotes I've had, www.rentacar-europe.com by far the cheapest - no connection etc, etc. Read more

>anyone know any stunning drives in that part of the world?

Try driving to Ronda, a windy mountain route but well worth it, for the drive and the destination. Sort of hang a right off the motorway and head towards Mijas, if I remember correctly, but there may be a faster route than that. Granada is well worth a visit, and so is Seville. Enjoy.

As mentioned in my other thread (help with route planning) I am going to France for a weeks holiday, driving my Scenic dci.
I have just realised that I will hit the 18,000 miles for its first service whilst I am there. I know buying cars is cheaper abroad, but has anyone any experience on whether I should try and get it serviced whilst over there?
Would it be the same service as here?
Cheaper or dearer?
Still covered by manufacturers warranty?

Any thoughts? Read more

Nice idea but the lights would also need to be changed as well, I have gone down this line, as I sometimes drive my wifes French registered car over here. Any car in the UK but not on UK plates must be registered if over here for more than six "continous" months.

I am off to Le Mans for the 24h race in June. The car (Omega MV6) is due some bits. Possibly:

2 new tyres (fitted) (currently on G F Goodrich)
1 new exhaust (presume mine would be the same as a lhd Omega?)
Rear shockers (squeaking, and yes, I read the recent thread on this)

Anyone know whether I will save much on these items if I wait until my trip? (I'm thinking of labour costs as well as cost of parts).

Bear in mind I usually obtain the parts here for my independent man to fit.
