The heater on my 1998 Renault Scenic 1.9 DTi diesel (with aircon) has never been very good in my 6 months of ownership, but this cold weather really shows up the problem.
The heater matrix is not leaking, the coolant level is constant but even on a long run in this freezing weather the heat output is only luke warm, moving the heater control from hot to cold does make the output colder but on max heat it is pathetic. Any ideas waht the problem could be??

I have a 1999 fiesta which has ABS and traction control. On 2 seperate occasions the dash warning lights for the above have stayed on after starting. When the engine is switched off and restarted they go off after a few seconds as required. The handbook states if ABS and handbrake light come on then do not drive but does not mention abs and traction lights. Could this be a fault with the check system? Any help welcome. Read more
I have a Fiesta with the same system.
Within two weeks of getting the car new, the lights came on but never went off. It turned out to be a faulty sensor on one of the wheels.
Unlike some cars, the ABS and TC are the same system. Whether a wheel spins or locks the brakes go quickly on and off. It has just a single warning light with two symbols.
The car is safe to drive with the ABS warning lights on. However, the ABS and TC will be disabled.
I have a 5 door Peugeot 306 and the problem is when I use the key in the passenger door to lock or unlock the doors all doors operate accept for the drivers door it doesn't do anythink.
But if I use the key in the drivers door all doors even the drivers door work correctly.
When I use the remote to lock or unlock the doors they just lock and unlock straight away.
I have change the motor which is in the drivers door and that hasn't made any difference.
Please can anyone help what could be wrong

I agree with greaser that the wiring loom between the door and the A-pillar is likely to fail - it bends, twists and stretches the wires in the bundle and some wires are liable to break.
However, I've had a look at the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual and I can't see any specific wire which is likely to cause the behaviour you describe. So you could be in for a long search to find the broken wire, bad connection or faulty module.
If I were you, I would live with this. Just forget about trying to use the key in the passenger lock - you never need to if the remote is working, anyway. Even when you come to sell the car, it's unlikely the buyer will spot it!

Hi,
Yesterday the lights failed on my wife's seat leon as she was on the motorway. She managed to get to service station then the engine cut out. She got it restarted but the diagnosis light on the dash remained lit, the `fasten seat belt` light stayed unlit and the central locking would not work. Local seat garage says they have found nothing wrong. Losing headlights, ect, at 60-70 is scary stuff. Anyone else heard of this? PS local air temp was at least -6c.
Thanks for any posts Read more
Hi,
My 1984 golf starts to misfire when hitting 40 in fourth gear. I have checked/cleaned all the plugs and leads and after initial promising results it came back again a few short hours later.
Some other advise has been to replace my fuel pump as this may be petrol starvation.
Has anybody got any further advise as to stop this annoying occurance?
Cheers

Had this very problem. Engine failing power at all sorts of random times. Eventually traced to poor connection at spade terminal for solenoid. Pulling off and on didnt orignally show the problem as the action of off/on concealed the poor joint with wire. Re-soldered problem solved. Total time elapsed altogether about six hours!!!!

...the Avantime and new Megane. They look like Renault have simply drawn a brick, attached something resembling a bonnet and taken a chunk out of the back. Any comments?
Also, at risk of people shouting at me, I'm pretty surprised by Lord Irvine's comments regarding burglars and society's supposed view that a lack of a prison sentence is OK. The consequential punishments dealt would be equivalent to certain driving offences where there are no aggravating factors.. Read more
"Like the Fiat Multipla, the new Renaults are a breath of fresh air."
Tom,
There's different (Audi TT?,) then there's dangerously different!
Surely the Multipla is more "halitosis" than "breath of fresh air"?
Agree that there are too many that look exactly alike these days.
Now I've seen posts about floor mats slowing a car by restricting the travel of the accelerator pedal but this may be a new one.....
At lunchtime I had to make a quick journey from the office into Bournemouth, about 2 miles. At a roundabout on the dual carriageway I put my foot down to nip into a suitable gap in the traffic. I then lifted my foot, only to find the accelerator caught under the front of the floor mat, with me hurtling towards the chap in the Beemer in front of me.
Cue frantic de-clutch, sounds of 5 cylinders on the rev-limiter, heavy braking and desperate attempts to tug the mat from the pedal with my left foot.
The mat in question is the proper Alfa 156 mat, complete with lugs to hold it in place. It seems that over time the front edge has started to curl up and in doing so has reached the point where it will hold the accelerator at 3/4 throttle.
Needless to say the mat is now in the boot, along with my pants.
May I suggest you all check that your mats won't do the same?
No Dosh - but then who has? Read more
Mats can pick up all kinds of forensic evidence and are difficult to wipe clean. Most car thieves will, given half a chance, wipe down the pedals and steering wheel before disposing of the mats when they dump your pride & joy.
No Dosh - but then who has?
I have the dubious pleasure of renewing one of these on a K-plate E36 type ( n/s ). Any tips would be helpful. I do have access to a press.Cheers Read more
Cheers for that . I had actually suggested to her that she tried the agent first, which she has, £175inc ( in Surrey ) sounds good to me and saves me a whole lot of hassle!
after owning a diesel i'm not sure i can go to petrol becasue of the cost in all aspects of ownership. it's just like throwing money away these days with higher torque engines.

I heard of this character for the first time at Christmas:
www.mag-uk.org/about/history/fred_hill.html
Seems a bit harsh that he had to die in jail.
Apparently he obeyed the law until he found out the law wasn't applied equally to those of all religions.
I tend to wear my helmet in the UK but once have a blast without on Tenerife which was very pleasent.

BTW, I remember Fred, too. I note that the "..prison governor had warned Fred that the harsh prison environment could be the death of him" yet the subsequent enquiry "..concluded that Fred's prison experience had not contributed toward his death". Well, there's a surprise...

i am currently having the same problem with a 1999 diesel scenic, is it a big job to do yourself, and can it be done without removing the dash?
