Can anybody advise me please?
My washer level warning light cmae on today so I thought I'd top it up when I got home. While filling it up I glanced across at the coolant reservoir and, like you do, tentatively touched the side of it and to my surprise it was stone cold!
My journey home is 15 miles of moving at 40-70mph, no traffic jams :)and the coolant temperature gauge got to the normal level. (OIl temp was a bit lower).
I'm worried that something may be wrong. The car had stood for no longer than 1 minute before I started filling the screen wash reservoir.
Car: Sept 2000 X reg Audi TDi 115PS, mileage 29,400, still has original coolant, which looks lovely and pink and clean! 30,000 mile service due soon.
Do I need to get this attended to under warranty?
Thanks

For those of you who bought one of the first RAV4's in the new shape, have you noticed a certain blackening on your alloys, more so on the front? You may want to check the surface finish next time you're cleaning the brake dust off. It should really be lacquered...
We advised the Toyota franchise and they replaced the whole set - yes, FIVE new alloys, properly lacquered.

My Zafira Diesel takes an age to register temperature (say 5 miles) and is slow to provide decent internal heating. Can any other owners confirm whether this is normal for such an engine, or should I suspect the thermostat? Read more
I understood that the Octavia (and Fabia diesel) have an aux electric heater used from cold to speed up heater warm-up, although I'm not sure of what design it is.
On my Clio dci, I noticed that in one of the heater coolant pipes there is an alloy cast housing which contains what looks like three glow plugs. Obviously there to aid the heater in cold starts during the winter.
Just got a message from wifey. She has filled up the power steering
reservoir on her Clio with water, instead of the washer bottle!
OK stop laughing.
What do we do?
What about sucking the water off the top of the fluid, then sucking the fluid out of the reservoir with a turkey baster before topping up with clean, before starting the engine again?
Please repond ASAP.
Thanks,
Mike

I should watch what she does when she pours you a drink tonight....! Washing-up liquid & tonic just ain't the same!
My dearly beloved's company has a 2000 W plate Saab 9-3 2 litre coupe, non-turbo, coming to the end of it's lease period and she's wondering whether to try and buy it. It's done 80k, has a shallow dent about 6'' long just above the plastic sill trim on one side, a couple of ciggy burns on the driver's seat and may need front discs soon but otherwise is tidy. It drives well. It obviously has full saab service history, so what is it worth to the leasing company?
I've read HJ's comments on this model, does anyone have any experience of them? Is a clutch change easy and what about parts prices? I presume German and Swedish would do most bits for them.
Ta in advance. Read more
I'd aim to run it into the ground. I'll put a lot of miles on so it'll be almost worthless in a few years.
Hello,
I have a 1999 Vectra Estate; I was wondering if it's possible to adjust either the o/s front or o/s rear doors. The reason being, I've noticed that when the o/s rear door is opened, it catches the o/s front door slightly, and paint is unfortunately being damaged.
Kind regards,

Having major trouble removing the heater on my Golf Mk2. I've disconnected the pipes from the engine bay side, removed a bedroomful of internal trim, screws and clips. Haynes say loosen the dash screws and then move on to removing the heat exchanger but it's not budging (feels like it's welded in!) It may be the next bit is simply clipped in, but I can't work out how to get the clips apart...
Any wise words kindly appreciated..
Thanks

If the car has already had either the modified valves and bypass fitted or a new matrix fitted by VW at any time in its life it will not qualify for a second change.
If you search on this forum and also via the link I posted above you will find wealth of comment by people who had the recall done.

Probably an easy one for you people but...
I have a V reg Omega 2.5 V6 CDX and often (but not always) when I have parked and switched off the engine I hear 4 beeps coming from the engine compartment (at about half second intervals).
I can't find a reference to this in the user's guide so does anyone out there know what this means? Read more
I've been told it's integral with the siren which I believe on my Y2K 3.0 is in the engine bay bolted to the back of the front offside wheel arch. According to my local Vx dealer, the siren is a 'sealed unit' and the whole thing had to be replaced at a cost of £70 (dealer fit).
This is the sort of thing someone might have lying around somewhere...
Have a '97 'R' plate Passat. VW Gamma head unit (the EARLY version with 'Gamma' written under the volume control)
Have just fitted Panasonic DP9060 changer in the boot, and bought a 'bus' lead. The connection lead I have (from Autoleads, via Halfords) for the 'bus lead to the head unit has a NEW ISO connecter (small) at one end, and an 8 pin 'DIN' socket, 2 audio plugs, and a fused, permanent, live feed. The connection lead I NEED must have same set to connect to bus lead, but an OLD (large) size ISO socket. (The head unit has a triple block ISO connector, 2 of which are used by the current system.)
If anyone can help, please email me direct off forum:(Tim_Allcott@yahoo.com) unless your answer will be helpful to others who may have similar, masochistic, tendencies.
I can purchase a lead locally, but this was supposed to be a money saving exercise, and they want one upper and one lower limb for it. Having just paid them £40 for the bus lead (yes I KNOW there's one on ebay for a tenner) Will pay moderate cost plus postage! Could swap for lead from Panasonic DP9060 to Audi Concert bus lead... I used to pay £15 at a garage in Wisbech with a free retest, and never had a fail. The tester lived in the real world and wasn't a pedant.
I now pay £20 in the Grimsby area, they seem fair enough so far.
If that "tiny bleed" gets blocked it can give overheating symptons.
This happened on my old Ford Orion in France but a French garage misdiagnosed it as a failed thermostat and I drove back from Bordeaux with the heater on full to keep the engine temperature down.
The AA patrol on the M27 found the problem and fixed it in five minutes flat.
