just a quick question, how much is the standard M.O.T. for a 406 1.9 diesel?

do prices vary for models or garages?

There is a standard charge for an MOT - just under £40 IIRC - and it's the same for all cars and garages, and set by the DOT. However, there is nothing to stop garages charging less as offers, or offering a free retest. Look around locally to see if anybody has a board up! I am always a bit suspicious of low price MOTs as I think (cyincally) that they will fail more cars to make up for the lower priced test.

i thought it was around that, 1 other question, i think my shocks are on the way out, do they check that?

i don't know the detail an M.O.T goes into anyone give a brief summary?

I used to pay £15 at a garage in Wisbech with a free retest, and never had a fail. The tester lived in the real world and wasn't a pedant.
I now pay £20 in the Grimsby area, they seem fair enough so far.
