Review: Mitsubishi Colt (1996 – 2004)

Rating:

Good balance of pace and economy. Decent ride and handling. Solidly constructed and proving reliable.

Not much space inside, especially in the back. Only three doors, which limits practicality.

What are your views on the AMT automatic gearbox in the 2007 Mitsubishi Colt?

We are looking for a small car for my mother, with the following characteristics: four or five doors as a baby seat needs loading and unloading, diesel as weekly trips up and down the motorway will be made so economy is important, and automatic due to slight arthritis. We've identified a 2007 Mitsubishi Colt with an AMT automatic gearbox, but we've heard a few mixed things about the reliability of this gearbox, so I'm interested in your views. Also, are there any other cars we should be considering for £5-8000?
I've had a few very good reviews of this combination, reaching 100,000 reliable miles. That doesn't mean they will all be okay. And, of course, it is an automated manual, not a true automatic.
