Can I test drive a vehicle before I tax and insure it?

I am looking to buy a second-hand Jaguar X-type estate. Can I personally test drive the vehicle before I tax and insure?

Not unless the car is trade stock, on a trade licence and on trade insurance. Alternatively, if it is still taxed and insured by the vendor, your own insurance may qualify you to drive other insured cars third party, and if it doesn't you can take out termporary insurance with www.dayinsure.com/
