Should I get the emissions 'fix' on my Volkswagen Caddy?

We have, from new, a Volkswagen Caddy which is now 4 years old. We have just had a letter from Volkswagen saying they are able to do the emissions "fix". I've looked into this and people that have had this fix are reporting even more problems with the EGR afterwards. This has gone on far too long and its about time they owned up and sorted this problem. This needs the press to look into this as matter of urgency. Do we have the fix then get a large invoice for them to replace the EGR and poorer performance or just leave things as they are and never purchase Volkswagen again as we were misled?
