Why are used prices for the Hyundai Elantra so much higher than valuations I've seen online?

Hi, I'm looking to buy a diesel Hyundai Elantra, but most cars advertised on Autotrader seem to be selling at 20-35 per cent above the suggested valuation at Whatcar.com and Parkers. Could this be because the dealers have optimistically overpriced this model and I will need to negotiate the price down, or are the valuations wrong?

The prices you see on those valuation sites are the price you should eventually pay - not what you should see cars advertised for. There should be plenty of room for negotiation on the price the dealer is advertising the car for. Dealers expect you to haggle and factor this into the price that they're advertising the car for.
