You don't mention what size of SUV you are considering or your budget, but the Toyota C-HR is one of the most economical hybrids available as it shares its hybrid powertrain with the Prius. The 1.8-litre version has a claimed fuel consumption of 72.4-74.3mpg, and although owners are reporting lower figures than this in our Real MPG section, the average consumption of 58.2mpg is still a strong figure.
