SEAT launches new Leon Cupra

SEAT has unveiled the high performance Cupra version of the new Leon. And like the Golf GTI there are two versions. The standard Cupra has 265PS while there's a more powerful Cupra 280PS. Prices start at £25,690 rising to £28,525 for the top Cupra 280 with the DSG gearbox.

The 280PS version is the most powerful production car SEAT has ever made and is also the quickest with a 0-62mph time of 5.8 seconds for the manual and 5.7 seconds for the DSG version. Both versions have an impressive 350Nm of torque that peaks from just 1750rpm. Despite all that power and performance, officialy economy is 44.1mpg for manual models.

The Cupra 280PS comes as either a three-door SC or a five-door hatchback while the standard Cupra is three-door only. Later this year there will also be a Cupra version of the Leon ST, a model that will rival the Ford Focus Estate ST.

SEAT's new Leon has already been praised for its impressive handling and the Cupra builds on that with a mechanical front axle differential lock, a progressive steering system that sharpens turn-in plus a DCC dynamic chassis control system that alters the suspension settings between a sportier or more comfort-oriented set-up.

To make it stand out from the standard Leon, the Cupra gets a new 18-inch alloy wheel design, a restyled front end with larger air intakes and full-LED headlights as standard. At the back there's a diffuser with dual oval exhaust pipes. The Cupra 280 goes one better with unique 19-inch titanium alloys and an aerodynamic pack which includes a rear spoiler and Cupra lettering on the red brake callipers.

Inside there are sports seats in dark grey Alcantara with white stitching while black leather upholstery is an option. Standard equipment includes DAB digital radio, SEAT Media System Plus, aluminium front door sill trims with a Cupra logo, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights.
