My daughter is due to replace the 205/45/16 83W tyres on her Ibiza soon and has asked me about buying quieter tyres this time, due her mainly driving longer distances over some of our not so good road surfaces. I have two questions and would welcome any advice anyone may have on the subject.
Firstly, what are the quietest tyres in this size (ie. 205/45/16's) ?
Secondly, what are anyones thoughts on changing to 205/50/16's on the same wheel rims. I am assuming that there would not be a fitting problem, as the overall diameter is only 20.5 mm greater and rolling circumference only 3.47% greater .
Any experienced comments very welcome.

Above is the best site to find good reasonable priced tyres either fitted or to fit yourself, and they offer great advise too.
Much cheaper than the well known fast fit places and the same tyre, id recommend you buy the best you can afford if your keeping the car 12 months or more and fit the standard size playing with the profile can cause problems.

I saved £110.00 buy buying from black circle maybe i got a good offer at the time but yes shop around plenty of choice on the internet.
The tyre i bought was michelin.

Uniroyal Rainsport 2 are quiet and highly regarded on VW forums.
Goodyear Excellence is a comfort/quiet oriented tyre, but I prefer the Uniroyals I have had fitted subsequently.

As well as on the Vectra-c forum.
I myself recently fitted them to my Vectra. Loads quieter than the Goodyear NCT5's and GSD3's that I previously had fitted.

Yeah would defo advise the Uni royals. As a Tyre Fitter lots of customers have them fitted and often return for more because they like them. However i would say that the uni royals can wear quickly as they are made from a soft compound so beware, having said that they do hold the road very well and think its well worth it. What tyres are fitted at the moment because if you have budget tyres fitted eg Fedrels (very noisey) Most branded tryes will be loads better than your current rubber. As far as the changing of the profile, yes you could do that and you would get a slightly softer ride (maybe) but i wouldnt bother to be honest because it has been known to cause problems later.

Hi,
She currently has Toyo TIR'S which are fine .Its the hard ride she would like to soften. What problems would be lightly later if 50 profile instead of 45 were fitted?
