1993 SAAB 9-3 Aircon Fail - Armitage Shanks {p}
Partners SAAB's air con ahs just failed, first problem in 7 years, with the air con at least! Advice please. Should she get it fixed now or switch it off and leave it until the Spring? At this age of car I guess the gas has finally gone. There is an excellent mobile dervice near her so it is no problem getting it fixed. Now or in the Spring?

Now and use it over the winter. A/C needs using to keep it in good fettle and it'll stop your windows misting up.

TVM. Yes and no! A political answer! Having sorted the injection which was unscheduled and costly I don't think a first a/c fault on a 7 year old car is a cause for too much heartache! Thanks to the poster who saying fix it and use it, too!

1993, 7 years old, which is it?

Sorry I have GCSE A* in maths and I can't take 7 from 2006 in my head! It is 7 years old = 1999, a very early 9-3, when it replaced the 900, with cosmetic differences only ie still really a Vectra under the skin!

In UK terms a Cavalier actually and none the worse for it, the 9-5 is based on the 95 to 02 Vectra.

Yes, get it fixed now and use it through the winter periodically, otherwise if it has lost its gas then seals will dry up the compressor may seize etc etc.

Has it lasted 7 years without a recharge? That must be some sort of record!

Mine only needed a recharge for the first time earlier this year. 1999 Focus.

No record though - I'm sure I read on here about someone's Civic lasting 13 years.
