Wiring in door open switches Escort 97. - StuW
Hi it?s always bugged me a little that Ford were so cheap that they didn?t bother putting door open switches on the back doors. I noticed that these switches seem pretty easily available for a few quid and wondered how easy it is to wire them in? The holes seem like they are already there as they covered over in a bodycoloured stick on piece of plastic. I just thought if it was a relatively quick and easy job I could add them in otherwise I won?t bother!
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean?

Are these buttons to electrically open or unlock the rear doors? If so, Ford would also have to incorperate some safety device in the front of the car to manually disable these buttons to stop small children from pressing and operating them; in pretty much the same way rear electric windows have. Not such a cheap thing once you start pricing up the safety side of things that would need adding as well.

I read it as courtesy light switches...

If the holes are already there ,then it is a fairly easy job to wire them to the front switches. The only difficuly part may be feeding the wire up the door post,by the seat belt reel.hth
