Peugeot 307 - Coolant temperature issue - PeugeotJoe
Hi all

I’ve had my Peugeot 307 1.4 (2003) for a few months now, passed its MOT with no advisories last month.

In the past week, I've started having a few issues. The main one is the coolant temperature. On the dash, after around 10 mins, the indicator flies up to max and the STOP sign beeps on the dash. It doesnt stay there permanently - it drops down below half way from time to time only to shoot back up.

I know very little about cars other than to say there doesnt feel anything wrong nor is it making any unusual sounds. Its very quiet as always and seems to be pulling well as it jas since I had it.

Perhaps unconnected, but the standard temperature on the dash is also showing permanently as 39/40/41 even when the car hasnt been running. That probably is totally unrelated, but seemed to happen at the same time.

If anyone can suggest any advice, would be much appreciated.

Check the coolant level in the header tank.

If OK when was the coolant last checked.

Thanks for the reply.

The coolant level seems OK, about midway between min and max. I would say i last checked it in Feb/Mar time

Coolant temp sensor is the most common failure on these. Located on the stat housing. It is a push fit with an o ring and securing clip.

Might be wrong here but I've got this thing in my head,

A faulty CTS lets coolant out through into the multi plug then up the wiring harness.

Creates a wiring short circuit hence the screwy reading on the panel/gauge.

Thanks all. The CTS seems to be a common theme so ill start there.

Any recommendations on where im best to buy one from? Found loads of different ones online, are they all much of a muchness or am I best to try somewhere specific? Appreciate everyone’s help with this, cheers.

I'm afraid when it comes to sensors I always try to buy at least O/E or from one of the better name makes.

Seen to many complicate thing by poor manufacture or wonky readings,

OP - its a common fault on 307s. A replacement sensor from Euro Car Parts will sort it.
