Weird and Wonderful? - BMDUBYA
A news snippet that made me chuckle found in today's Sun newspaper in one of their "Sun Spots", I think its a way of reporting the weird and wonderful. Anyway I have omitted the owners name for fear of public persecution:-)

"An Austin Maestro stolen from its 39 year old owner, was found sub merged in a canal with its headlights STILL ON in long Eaton, Derbyshire."

Now who thinks this has made the news because

(i) It is weird that the car was found with the lights STILL ON?
or
(ii) It is weird because someone thought that it would be worth there while to steal an Austin Maestro?

Neither.
It made news beacuse they'd found a Maestro with working lights!

Nope not that, did three years and 66,000 miles in a maestro from new and the only thing that WASNT changed was the lights.

I think its newsworthy cos they got the thing started.

I've lost count of the number of times I'd come back to the yard & find Maestros (vans) that had turned on their own lights!
It took very little water to get into the switch, to short it,during valeting, for us to have a flat battery next day!
So dipping it in the canal, should do a PROPER job!!

I thought I just had a rogue Maestro van but it would appear not.
My old Maestro was prone to turning on its amber rotating beacon at about 1 a.m. on frosty nights, it's quite a strange sensation waking up in the middle of the night with the bedroom filled with a lovely flashing orange glow. Unfortunately the glow faded when I realised that I would have to get out of my nice warm bed to turned the thing off!!

Strange vehicle, the Maestro van, one of my colleagues swore blind that he could change up through the box as far as third with the front wheels still spinning before his would pull out of side streets. I used to think he was just a bit of a boy racer until I borrowed his van one day, it just seemed to have no traction at all, amazing.

I think Mrs Sheepy would object if I parked a van in the bedroom....

A friend of mine had his Austin Maestro Automatic stolen a year or so back. They used it to get them to a car park in the rain where they stole a nice 3 series, leaving the engine of the Maestro running.

Either they got bored of the Maestro very, very quickly, or they used it as an alternative to an umbrella...
