Should I get a diesel car if I only do 8000 miles per year?

I have been offered a Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG Estate diesel for £18,000. I don't know whether or not it's a good buy with the new diesel regulations. It has 36,000 miles on the clock and I drive 8000 miles per year. I love the luxury and reliability that a the car provides though. Can you help me to make a decision?

I wouldn't, I'd go for petrol this time round. Over the last six months diesels have dropped in value by an additional five per cent over their normal expected fall in value and I think this will get worse. It can make bargains out of new diesels in dealer stocks that they can't get rid of, but - because diesels cost more to make, but the market values them at less than petrols - manufacturers will now simply stop feeding the market with as many diesels.
